Obama Administration Prepares “Final Assault” Against Gun Owners
The Justice Department plans to move forward this year with more than a dozen new gun-related regulations, according to list of rules the agency has proposed to enact before the end of the Obama administration.
The regulations range from new restrictions on high-powered pistols to gun storage requirements. Chief among them is a renewed effort to keep guns out of the hands of people who are mentally unstable or have been convicted of domestic abuse.

WHAT CONSTITUTION? Obama Plans To Muzzle Gun-Related Speech
an attempt to twist ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) regulations to ban online speech about firearms, claiming that information posted online is “exporting” data.
Even as news reports have been highlighting the gun control provisions of the Administration’s “Unified Agenda” of regulatory objectives (see accompanying story), the Obama State Department has been quietly moving ahead with a proposal that could censor online speech related to firearms. This latest regulatory assault, published in the June 3 issue of the Federal Register, is as much an affront to the First Amendment as it is to the Second. Your action is urgently needed to ensure that online blogs, videos, and web forums devoted to the technical aspects of firearms and ammunition do not become subject to prior review by State Department bureaucrats before they can be published…

News
Federal judge again rules key part of new D.C. gun law unconstitutional. I would classify this as good news, except that this administration has lately been demonstrating an increasing contempt for court rulings. I dunno what happens when they become blatant about it.
G.O.T.W. Answer
That's a .44-40 Winchester and one with quite a backstory. Someone leaned it against a tree in Nevada 130 years ago and never returned for it.
Gun History
For Three Decades, the Pentagon Tried and Failed to Build Sci-Fi Shotguns
The shotgun is an iconic weapon most associated with the pump action badassery of action films and video games. While awesome in fiction, its use in the real world is limited to close combat and breaching doors.
Despite its drawbacks, a mystique surrounds the weapon and soldiers still use them. The draw of the gun is so powerful that the Pentagon has spent several decades and millions of dollars to improve on the basic design.
