Something Uplifting for a Sunday Afternoon... Literally! [Y-not]
A couple of weeks ago our fearless leader (no, not Obama... the Head Ewok!) was enjoining us to unplug our televisions. He made some good arguments for what a soul-sucking time-waster TV programming is.
Anyway, not long after that thread the Mister and I went to see one of the touring shows of Cirque du Soleil, "Varekai." This was our third CdS show. Each one has been well worth the price of admission and has left us in awe of what human beings can accomplish. Very uplifting. I hated people a wee bit less after seeing that show.
Varekai's plot was loosely based on the legend of Icarus. There was a happy ending (Icarus recovered from his injuries and found love), but mostly CdS performances are an excuse to showcase some spectacular feats of skill, agility, strength, and bravery.
The most dangerous act in Varekai was the Russian Swings. Here's a clip with abysmal music (not from the show):
And here's a shorter clip that shows the performers jumping from one moving swing to another:

Holee crapola!
Here's a documentary about Cirque du Soleil:
What activities help you hate your fellow human beings a little bit less?
