Islamic State Terrorists Slaughter 19 in Museum in Tunis, Mostly Western Tourists; Nine Arrested in Connection with Mostly Peaceful Murders
Cult of Murder.
Nineteen people, including 17 foreign tourists, have been killed in a gun attack on the Bardo museum in the Tunisian capital, Tunis, the PM says.
Those killed included citizens from Japan, Italy, Colombia, Australia, France, Poland and Spain, PM Habib Essid said.
Two Tunisians, one a police officer, were also killed, he said.
Security forces killed two gunmen and were searching the surrounding area for accomplices, Mr Essid added.
At the time of the attack, deputies in the neighbouring parliamentary building were discussing anti-terrorism legislation. Parliament was evacuated.
The article recounts that Tunisia is frequently the target of terrorism, always perpetrated by, get this, jihadists.
I suppose it's good news, sort of, that nine people have now been arrested in connection with the attacks.
Early reports suggested an Al Qaeda connection, but IS claims responsibility now.
Nine people have been arrested in connection with Wednesday's gun attack in Tunis that left 23 people dead, including 20 foreign tourists, the Tunisian presidency says.
It alleged that four were directly linked to the attack and five had "ties to the cell".
The army will also be deployed to major cities, the presidency added.
In another development, Islamic State said in an audio message that it was behind the attack.
It said the attack was carried out by "two knights of the caliphate" and named them as Abu-Zakariya al-Tunisi and Abu-Anas al-Tunisi.
A statement described the attack as a "blessed invasion of one of the dens of infidels and vice in Muslim Tunisia".
The statement was published by Twitter accounts known to be reliable sources of IS propaganda.
One of two gunmen involved in the Bardo museum attack, named by Tunisian officials as Yassine Laabidi, was reportedly known to the authorities.
That's why I don't consider the arrests great news. These people were always "known to authorities" beforehand.
Apparently no one can do anything to a jihadist until he murders 19 people.
As you're no doubt aware, IS is calling for this type of low-concept terrorist attack all over the Western world.
The New York Times suggests Tunisia might be a particular target for IS because it's actually become a fledgling democracy, something loathsome to the minds of savage murder cult fascists.
