New week, new thread

NPD

For console sales, as expected, the rankings didn't change: XBO>PS4>WiiU.

Microsoft has to be happy at moving 1.26m consoles in December though the early indicators for January must have been real bad as they sure as hell quickly announced a "new" promotion of the stand alone console going back $350. Also interesting in seeing that in December, the XBO was also the best selling when it came to software sales. First time that has happened.

And Sony has to be happy at pulling in just over 1m of PS4 sales for not really having any widespread bundles outside of a standard "pick your freebie" one. Can't say the same about the Vita or PSTV as those things are really dead.

With Nintendo, even with having a packed season and December was the best selling month on record, WiiU still sold like crap when you actually look at the number of 550K or so units. The 3DS did better than I expected as it kept it's usual Holiday sales at around 300K units. On a positive note, they moved quite a few Amiibos since launch. Considering that there is Disney Infinity and Skylanders fighting for the same money, selling 2.6m figures is pretty good.

This year it will be interesting in how many consoles are sold. Will the totals start easing up as the "hard core" as been sated or not? Will casuals start buying (don't think too many will IMO).

Nintendo Direct

• They may not be bringing back Tharja but still, new Fire Emblem (only thing I was hyped about during the Nintendo Direct.

• They also showed off the Fire Emblem DLC for Project S.T.E.A.M. that you get when you use your FE Amiibos (no Tharja ;_;)

• Well, we finally got a release date for the New 3DS, February 13th. But, we're only getting the XL version and it isn't coming with an AC adapter because Rather than raise cost of New Nintendo 3DS XL by charging consumers for a component they may already own, we are giving them the option to only buy if they need an AC adapter. aka F YOU, GIVE ME MONEY.

• Man, Xenoblade Chronicles X is looking really damn good

• Too bad you can't say the same to the 3DS release of Xenoblade Chronicles. Though considering how ass that game ran on the Wii, it shouldn't be too surprising. That being said, this isn't making me want to upgrade to a New 3DS

• Well, we knew that the Super Mario Brothers Edition of Puzzle & Dragons was coming here which led people (myself included) to assume that we wouldn't get the Puzzle & Dragons Z that came out last year. Well, not so as it's going to be a double pack

NEW RELEASES

Unions suck, who knew? Well Austin Wintory is about to get kicked out of the American Federation of Musicians for his work on Banner Saga. They already fined him 50 grand which he is refusing to pay.

March 26th is when Pillars of Eternity is coming out.

Yeah, remember how Naughty Dog said they were going to get Uncharted 4 to 60fps? Yeah.....that's not happening

NEW RELEASES

Time for the stuff that missed Christmas to start coming out, week is pretty packed.

Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell (PC, PS3, PS4, 360, XBO) - The stand alone SRIV DLC is finally coming out. Personally thought IV was a good ending to the series but Nordic needs money to pay for their acquiring Volition. You know what you're getting with Saints Row, for good or bad. Fun open world game that plays up the fact that it's a videogame.

Resident Evil HD REmaster (PC, PS3, PS4, 360 & XBO) - It's a "remake" aka up-port of the Gamecube REmake of the original Resident Evil. If you've never played it on the GameCube, it's a great remake with the new art. Only thing is that the GameCube release still looks good so. This is totally a Capcom needs money release.

Blackguards 2 (PC) - It's always fascinating to notice that the The Dark Eye RPG series has been better represented in videogames than D&D. From Dungeon Crawling (Realms of Arkania), P&C (The Dark Eye: Chains of Satinav) to big open RPGs (Drakensang) and Turn Based Strategy games (Blackguard). Anyways, this is a sequel to under-rated first Blackguards game that came out last year. Don't expect much new, just a hard as balls TBS continuing with the story. That's not exactly a bad thing (outside of the high price).

HuniePop (PC) - Someone sat down and tried to figure out what hasn't been mixed with the Match 3 genre yet and they found a dating sim hasn't. There are two releases for this game, a Steam release which is "Mature" and a "Adult" release on their own site. Same price, buy it on their site if you want this.
