The Long Night: Hostages Taken In a Jeweler's Shop In Montpellier, France
I have to apologize for posting this -- I saw a news site claim it, then someone tweeted a picture, then another person claimed he'd heard it.
This is not the best sourcing for the story. But while the picture may be a hoax, it does give me some belief that these multiple reports of another hostage situation, this time in Montpellier, are true.
Montpellier is a completely different city, way down on the southern coast, so this isn't a case of a hostage taker escaping, then holing up here.
Apologies if this all turns out to be a hoax or, perhaps, something utterly unrelated. After all, ordinary crime occurs in France too. It's been open season on jewelers for a couple of years.
Update: This report calls it a "robbery gone wrong." So it doesn't appear to be terrorism.
Cops have surrounded the two robbers.
