Overnight Open Thread (31 Oct 2014)
Trick or treat America. An Iran nuclear deal will be the Obamacare of Obama's second term. This will not end well, especially when we treat our friends like enemies.
It is worth recalling Iran's regime and its proxies murdered as many as 1,000 U.S. service personnel in Iraq in the years after 2003. As my FDD colleague Tony Badran notes, the Obama administration has simply airbrushed Iran's role in the 1983 bombing of the U.S. Marine barracks in Beirut from history. The joint Iranian-Hezbollah terrorist operation, which took place 31 years ago last week, killed 241 Marines.
Green Energy
So typical of so called green energy. Ivanpah solar thermal power plant energy production falling well short of projections. Here's the kicker though. Its carbon footprint is essentially the same as a natural gas-fired power plant for just a bit more power and a lot more cost.
Under the original certification, "total annual natural gas fuel heat input" was not to exceed "5 percent of the total annual heat input from the sun" at each of the three Ivanpah units. That provision has been struck, and now BrightSource can burn a total of 1,575 million standard cubic feet of natural gas every year. To get a sense of that volume, an average U.S. natural gas-fired power plant might be expected to produce about 200,000 MWh from 1,575 mmcf of gas, according to the EIA.

Higher Education
Y'all should see if you can get some college credits for livin' the AoS HQ lifestyle. 'Wasting time on internet' now an Ivy League class.
Hornet Ball 2014
You might want to mute your speakers. The music choices for this video were a bit lame.

Canadian Rewards
Now this is a just and proper reward for doing your job. Heroism during Ottawa shooting leads to free beer for Alain Gervais.
"We just need to constantly make sure that that person never has to pay for a beer at any pub in the country for the rest of his life."
Granted its only Molson beer but hey, it's free.
Top Candy By State
Trending Halloween treats by state. WTF New Mexico? Pencils??
Climate Change
Well, maybe climate change "scientists" wouldn't suffer from pre-traumatic stress if they'd just stop peddling their BS. And what's this about a new field of psychology of global warming?
Lise Van Susteren, a forensic psychiatrist based in Washington, D.C. - and co-author of the National Wildlife Federation's report - calls this emotional reaction "pre-traumatic stress disorder," a term she coined to describe the mental anguish that results from preparing for the worst, before it actually happens.
"It's an intense preoccupation with thoughts we cannot get out of our minds," Van Susteren says. And for some, it's a preoccupation that extends well outside of the office. "Everyday irritations as parents and spouses have their place, they're legitimate," she says. "But when you're talking about thousands of years of impacts and species, giving a shit about whether you're going to get the right soccer equipment or whether you forgot something at school is pretty tough."
What's even more deflating for a climate scientist is when sounding the alarm on climatic catastrophes seems to fall on deaf ears.
It falls on deaf ears because you can't make your case.
Kobane
Sums up our war effort in Syria as we bomb an ISIS flag with a few jihadis on a hill with 6 bombs.
Beheadings
So are beheadings in the US the new normal? Suspect charged after Oklahoma man nearly beheaded.
