Gaming Thread 10/12/2014

Sorry bout last week. As much as I like doing this post, I like making money more.

So the PS TV finally hits the shores of the West. Run ya $100 for the console or $140 if you want it with a packed in PS3 controller, Lego The Movie Videogame and a 8 gig card (which is worthless). It's basically just Sony trying to salvage all the left over innards of unsold Vitas.

There is a long list of Vita games that this thing doesn't play and as a cheap multimedia box, you're stuck with what ever is in the Vita section of the PSN store (Netflix, Crunchyroll, Youtube, Hulu and Crackle is all you're gonna get).

It does work as a bridge for your PS4 (for remote play) and it is getting the PSNow streaming service though so there is that going for it.

It hasn't taken off in Japan so it should be interesting in how well this sells here (I'm expecting the same outcome). If nothing else, hopefully this puts pressure on Sony to stop their massive price gouging on memory cards (64 gigs should not cost $100).

Oh, Sony showed off a trailer for the upcoming tv show on Powers which is exclusive for PS+ members. They shouldn't have picked it up after FX killed the project

NEWS

Well, at least Square is making the prudent move with moving Kingdom Hearts 3 to Unreal Engine 4.

If they base it around the books, a Myst series could work but eh, this is almost 20 years too late if it gets off the ground.

this is a pretty cool look at remake of the Gamecube Star Wars games for the Wii which was completed but never released

So Sony is looking at selling 200k PS4 units in China per year.

• Finally get the full demo of Quantum Break

On one hand, I can see why the Halo 2 Anniversary won't be running at 1080P as it's basically two games being run at once (original engine and new engine) but it would have been nice if they would have included an option to turn off the switching to get it at that resolution.

NEW RELEASES

This week is so packed with stuff to buy and they all hit different genres.

The Evil Within (PC, PS4, XBO, PS3, PS3) - It's been four years since Shinji Mikami has directed a game (the awesome Vanquish) and even longer since he's tackled horror (Resident Evil 4 in 05). Should be interesting in how it's running on id Tech 5 which for all intents and purpose, was hard coded for 60FPS at all costs while Evil Within is going to be running at 30fps. Considering in how well it ran in Rage, it should be interesting on seeing where the engine currently is at. For a lackluster period of horror games, this one really needs to knock it out of the park.

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel (PC, PS3, 360) - 2K Australia and Gearbox ready to show Bungie in how lootwhoring should be done. Sadly they stuck a air bubble mechanic to it (think Lost Planet) but it's a trade off while Gearbox works on a proper Borderland game. Very much expect a GOTY edition to hit next year for current gen systems.

Legend of Grimrock 2 (PC) - Sequel to one of the best games of the last few years. This one gets you out of the basement with an overworld to explore. Hopefully they fixed the balance issues of the first game (stack strength) and made the puzzles a little more challenging. Either way, it's still gonna be a very pretty dungeon crawler and probably one of the best games of the year. Can't wait for release date.

Sentinels of the Multiverse (iPad) - The digital verison of this awesome game is finally coming out this week. Considering in how much of a pain in the ass this game is to play in the physical realm (even with the score keeper app on my phone), I'm very much looking forward to seeing how this shakes out. Gonna run ya $10. Out for Android later (you peasants should be used to that by now).

Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers (PC) - Jane Jensen comiing back to remake the first game in the seminal series. And frankly, the whole series needs a remake be it the bad SCI1 graphics of the first game, horrible live action of the second one or the fugly early 3D graphics of the third game. I do hope they kept the VO of the first game though, those performances are still quite good (with Tim Curry unsurprisingly being the best of the lot). I'm always conflicted on videogame remakes but this one I'm fully interested in.

Senran Kagura Shinovi Versus (PSV) - Want some fanservice in your musou? The girls are back for this clothing ripping beat'em up/futomaki roll eating sim. If you want the regular edition, your stuck with the digital release but they're releasing a special edition called the "Let's Get Physical Edition" which comes with a soundtrack and some pinups. You either know what you're getting with this or you're not picking it up. All hail my Katsuragi waifu
