FRIDAAAAAAY. AYYYYY. AYYYYYY.
So there was a lot of legal action last night. First, the Supreme Court, over dissent by Justices Scalia, Alito, and Thomas, prevented
Wisconsin's voter ID law from going into effect during this election.
Then a federal district judge overturned Texas' 2001 voter ID law (PDF) as unconstitutional intentional discrimination against Latino and black voters and as an unconstitutional poll tax:
It is vexing that this decision on a law enacted in 2011 gives almost no time for remedy or appeal before the election, although Texas will be appealing immediately to the 5th Cir. and, presumably, will fight this one to the Supreme Court if it has to.
Also yesterday, the Supreme Court spokesman admitted that Justice Kennedy accidentally halted same-sex marriage in Nevada when he granted a stay of the marriages in Idaho. Nevada had indicated it was ready to comply with a 9th Cir. decision finding its gay marriage ban unconstitutional, but Idaho planned to seek review at the Supreme Court.
I don't understand why they can't take a fine premise and try and make a good movie out of it.
Why the "let's make it chicks" gimmick?
Have a great weekend.
