When people say "That can't be done," what they usually mean is I don't want you to do that because it will put me at a competitive disadvantage.

Obviously the American Left screamed that we could never intercept ICBMs out of a desire to not disadvantage their Soviet confreres.

But of course people say this in real life, too, that you can't do this, that doing that is impossible, that you should just give up.

What they're saying is that they're afraid you'll fail, but what they're feeling is fear that you'll succeed.

An Indian woman armed only with farm tools is stable in hospital after killing a leopard that attacked her.

Kamla Devi, 56, sustained multiple bites, cuts and fractures during the half-hour battle.

She had been fetching water in northern Uttarakhand state when the leopard pounced on her from nearby bushes -- she fought back with a sickle and spade.

"I thought I was dead but I did not lose patience and courage," she told reporters after her lucky escape.

I wouldn't call that lucky. She fought the thing for a half an hour. She earned that. If you sweat and bleed for something that's not luck. Luck is when happy chance blunders into you.

The leopard said, "Put down that spade, that's just silly, it's impossible to kill a leopard with a spade," right before she killed it with a spade.

Incidentally, there has been at least one other leopard attack in the area. (The article notes another leopard attack but I don't know Indian geography so I can't say it's "in the area.")

So she may have killed a manhunting beast that's been prowling around attacking women.
