Democratic Operatives With Bylines Oddly Disinterested in Michael Brown's Family

But why, then, is the divorce of Wilson's parents and their other history considered fair game by the press, and not that of Brown's parents or relatives? After all, Brown had a mother and stepfather, and a biological father whose name is Michael Brown Sr., so we can conclude that some sort of divorce/separation and upheaval occurred. But it is virtually never mentioned, either in the AP article or in any other article I've been able to locate after doing some quick Googling. Nor is the history of any other family member of Brown discussed. Although there is some mention that the 18-year-old Brown was living with his grandmother for the summer, we don't really know why and reporters don't seem to be the least bit curious.

NY Times Apologizes for Saying Robber Michael Brown Was "No Angel"

Let's get the obvious out of the way first: That choice of words was a regrettable mistake. In saying that the 18-year-old Michael Brown was "no angel" in the fifth paragraph of Monday's front-page profile, The Times seems to suggest that this was, altogether, a bad kid.

Well since no human on Earth is angelic, describing him as 'no angel' is hardly setting the bar very low. And if you can't describe someone who strong arm robbed a convenience store moments before with this most tepid of descriptions, then the language of truth is dead.

Apparently not being able to live a care and effort-free existence with zero risk while out drinking makes you a victim of rape culture. Just like using birth control to not get pregnant makes you a victim of pregnancy culture, having seat belts and airbags in your car make you a victim of crash culture, and having locks on your door makes you a victim of theft culture.

'So What Happens When the Patriarchy Is Smashed?'

Well nothing good.

As someone clever pointed out, it's interesting that the Feminist chose Chicago for their "Smash the Patriarchy" message, because nowhere has the Patriarchy been more successfully smashed than in the inner cities. Households led by fathers have become exceedingly rare,  single women raise families without husbands, and very few people participate in capitalist enterprises; the inner cities have become Radical Feminist utopia.

How's that working out for them?

And note that approximately zero Radical Feminists choose to live in these patriarchy-free zones.

The Protests That Didn't Bark

Peggy Noonan and James Taranto notice that no one is protesting Obama's bombing of ISIS in Iraq. It is rather notable considering that there were protests against bombing Afghanistan a month after 9/11 and that action had nearly unanimous support compared to poll results for the present bombing. Taranto's hypothesis is that the sorts of people who would normally protest this sort of action against ISIS are busy protesting against Israel and in Ferguson.

We Only Want Dumb Cops

Or at least no better than average.

A man whose bid to become a police officer was rejected after he scored too high on an intelligence test has lost an appeal in his federal lawsuit against the city.

The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New York upheld a lower court's decision that the city did not discriminate against Robert Jordan because the same standards were applied to everyone who took the test.

"This kind of puts an official face on discrimination in America against people of a certain class," Jordan said today from his Waterford home. "I maintain you have no more control over your basic intelligence than your eye color or your gender or anything else."

Jordan, a 49-year-old college graduate, took the exam in 1996 and scored 33 points, the equivalent of an IQ of 125. But New London police interviewed only candidates who scored 20 to 27, on the theory that those who scored too high could get bored with police work and leave soon after undergoing costly training.

The average score nationally for police officers is 21 to 22, the equivalent of an IQ of 104, or just a little above average.
