Overnight Open Thread (8-11-2014)

So I made the mistake of looking in on the Robin Williams thread. And it was a depressing and demoralizing read that bummed me out.

Clearly there are some commenters around here who use politics as an excuse to indulge in the uglier, nasty sides of their natures. We mock this on the left but it's a human trait which means that anyone of any political view is vulnerable.

Just because you have the 'right' political beliefs and really, really, TOTALLY care about politics doesn't give you a free pass on assholery. Obsessives gotta obsess and assholes are gonna asshole. And so for some people politics just becomes the medium where they get to release all their dark emotional energy in a more socially acceptable way. But assholery in the name of politics doesn't alter its fundamentally nasty nature.
