Overnight Open Thread (2 Aug 2014)

You know, if you've got federal workers that are so bored because of the lack of work to surf pron 8 hours a day, it should be an easy call to just kill that job no? That job is obviously not needed nor important enough to waste taxpayer money on it.

This Week In Stupid

These 'Queers for Palestine' aren't the sharpest knives in the drawer. Reminds me of American Jews who still vote Democrat or support Obama.

Summer Meteor Showers

No, the upcoming showers won't include SMOD but you can still enjoy the show. Summer meteor shower calendar. If you click the link, there is a meteor shower quiz for ya.

Shotgun Silencer

Hmmm, 140 dB's is still pretty friggin' loud. The Silencerco Salvo 12.

Meat Futures

Maybe good news and some bad news. Pork prices might come down by the end of the year but expect beef prices to remain high into 2015.

In the U.S., the consumer prices of beef and pork were up 10.4% and 12% year-over-year in June, respectively, dwarfing overall food inflation of 2.4%.

San Diego Comic Con Cosplay

World's Lightest Material

Oh I can definitely see some useful applications for carbon aerogel but giving airline passengers parachutes made up of this material isn't one of them.

"But if the plane disintegrated in mid-air, like if it were hit by a missile, the parachutes would give some passengers a chance of survival. Those with flight panic may also find mental relief by wearing a parachute throughout a flight."

Um no, parachutes wouldn't make a difference in this instance. If you survived the explosive decompression and weren't killed by debris, you are most likely unconscious and wouldn't be able to leave your seat/aircraft and pull the ripcord.

The Grumpy Cat Empire

Damn. 7 figures for a cat?

It's Grumpy's disgruntled demeanor that has propelled her to stardom, garnering 15.7 million views for one of her first YouTube videos, 6.2 million likes on Facebook, 228,000 Twitter followers, more than 433,000 Instagram followers, a TV movie and a national commercial, all in less than two years. There are more than 400 products (think T-shirts, coffee mugs and plush toys) that feature the frowning feline, and her first book, Grumpy Cat: A Grumpy Book (Chronicle), has sold more than 500,000 copies in 15 languages. She even has her own iced-coffee drink, Grumppuccino, available in select cities at specialty shops.
