Dumb Media Gun Story of the Week
So, apparently we'll just have one of these embarrassments from this day forth.
So Beretta has announced plans to move its factory from gun-controlling Maryland to gun-rights-respecting Tennessee. This gives the gun-control people, and perhaps some Maryland legislatures, a case of the Bothers, and they've been looking to rake Beretta for embarrassing them since.
That's my speculation here: That they've been looking for any kind of reason to claim Beretta is terrible, just terrible, and they've seized upon a routine press release about a rifle as their vehicle of retribution.
I can't think of any other reason this ridiculous article got written.
Announcing the "unusually powerful" new Beretta rifle -- in the unusually powerful caliber of 5.56mm.
In addition, this guy needs you to know that Beretta describes people who might use this weapon as "tactical shooters," which is, he informs you, a term used "in video games:"
In common usage, "tactical shooter" is one of the descriptions of video game features.
What?!
I don't even know what the hell that sentence even means. "One of the descriptions of video game features"? What does this mean? What could this mean?
The statement is literally senseless. It's wrong-- sure. But even worse, I'm not sure it's wrong, because I have no earthly idea what this idiot intended to mean by this strange assortment of words.
As for this SuperWeapon being "unusually powerful:"
Beretta's press release makes no claims whatsoever about a 5.56mm rifle being "unusually powerful" -- probably because people would laugh at them if they did.
Instead, their press release calls out the gun for being "reliable" and "versatile." They also talk about the gun being "ambidextrous," which perhaps is a word whose meaning Yahoo's Finance Editor (or whatever he is) doesn't know.
Maybe he thinks it means "filled with crocodiles."
Anyway, there's a lot to laugh at here. I've barely scratched the surface.
I can't wait to read this guy's dispatches on finance. He seems to really know what he's talking about.
