Chuck Todd: Given Grim Polling Showing "Disaster" In Level of Support, Obama's Presidency is "Over"
Yid With Lid runs down the main findings of the NBC/WSJ poll.
The latest NBC News/WSJ Poll released Wednesday morning was nothing short of a disaster for President Obama. A majority of Americans (54%) believe Obama is no longer able to lead the country (42% believe he is still able). Additionally while the public is divided 50%/50% on the question of whether the overall administration is competently managing he federal govt. those numbers are slightly less than the Bush administration at approximately the same time in his tenure (53%/46%).
Obama's overall approval rating fell back to his all time low of only 41% approving of the job Obama is doing as POTUS...
Meanwhile, only 41% feel positively about him as a person -- and they say that feelings-oriented number provides a ceiling on job performance.
The public disagrees with Obama on major issues.
Just 37 percent approve of his handling of foreign policy, which is an all-time low in the survey, while 57 percent disapprove, an all-time high.
What’s more, by a 44 percent-to-30 percent margin, Americans disagree with the Obama administration’s decision to secure the release of U.S. Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl in exchange for five imprisoned Taliban fighters.
As Yid with Lid reminds, foreign policy was once a strong point for this incompetent.
Chuck Todd stopped being a vigorously partisan Obama booster for a moment to turn into a stinkburger and meanwhich.
"This poll is a disaster for the president," Todd said. "You look at the presidency here: Lowest job rating, tied for the lowest; lowest on foreign policy. His administration is seen as less competent than the Bush administration, post-Katrina."
"On the issue of do you believe he can still lead? A majority believe no. Essentially the public is saying your presidency is over," Todd added.
Unfortunately for America, though, it's not. While most Presidents would feel the evaporation of support and scale back their program appropriately, Obama has all but explicitly declared that he holds the American people in absolute contempt.
He does not need public support to enact his agenda by executive tyrannical fiat, just as he does not need Congress.
So we're in a difficult period: The president has lost the support of the American people, and so by rights has no mandate to do much of anything except play golf, and yet the president doesn't care at all what the people think.
Though he will of course continue playing golf.
