Jennifer Griffin: US Government Has Letter Bergdahl Left Behind Suggesting He Intended to Renounce His American Citizenship and Join the Taliban
No wonder he was such an important Get for Team Obama.
Sources who had debriefed two former members of Bergdahl’s unit told Fox News Bergdahl left behind a note the night he left base in which he expressed disillusionment with the Army and being an American and suggested that he wanted to renounce his American citizenship and go find the Taliban. U.S. military officials would not confirm the existence of the letter, but if it does exist, it would likely be part of the original file on the investigation into Bergdahl’s disappearance.
And Bowe Bergdah's pappy seems cut from the same cloth:
The future is too good to waste on lies,” Bergdahl wrote his parents. “And life is way too short to care for the damnation of others, as well as to spend helping fools with their ideas that are wrong. I have seen their ideas and I am ashamed to even be American. The horror of the self-righteous arrogance that they thrive in. It is all revolting.”
Bergdahl's father, Bob Bergdahl, who learned the Pashto language spoken in much of Afghanistan while his son was held hostage and chanted an Islamic prayer as he stood alongside President Obama for Saturday's Rose Garden announcement of the deal, wrote back to his son with a subject line in all capital letters: "OBEY YOUR CONSCIENCE!" That email, one of several between the Bergdahls revealed in a lengthy 2012 Rolling Stone report, was sent three days before the-then private first class left his post.
What horrible, horrible advice -- even on a strictly practical level.
Of Course... All the actual intelligence and military people opposed this corrupt, cowardly deal. But Obama and his political hands got a "forced consensus," which is of course a contradiction in terms, but same shit different day for this Administration.
Leaders of the U.S. intelligence community and military were opposed to freeing five senior Taliban commanders in exchange for Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl when the White House first began exploring the prisoner swap in 2011 and 2012.
...
Clapper and Panetta objected to the deal. But Panetta is gone now, replaced by the weak idiot Hagel.
But current U.S. intelligence and defense officials who spoke to The Daily Beast on Monday say the process for exchanging Taliban for Bergdahl this time was rushed and closely held, in some instances leaving little room for any push back against a policy clearly favored by the White House.
“This was an example of forcing the consensus,” one U.S. military official said. “The White House knew the answer they wanted and they ended up getting it.”
Cuban Intelligence Agent: Hey, If You're In the Mood to Bargain... Cuba offers to exchange "contractor" Alan Gross for three Cuban agents.
"If they were willing to make this kind of exchange with the Taliban in Afghanistan, it makes no sense other than the lack of political will" not to do the same with Havana to gain the release of "the person jailed in Cuba," he said.
...
"I think that all we need for this to happen is the political will in the U.S. administration, to make the decision and finally accept that they are responsible for [Gross'] imprisonment in Cuba," Gonzalez insisted.
Gross is serving a 15-year sentence for smuggling illegal satellite communication equipment into Cuba as part of a USAID regime change program initiated under the Bush Administration.
I guess the difference is that Gross was serving his country when captured.
