#BanBitchy: A Year Ago, New NYT Honcho Dean Baquet Called The Idea That Jill Abramson Was "Bitchy" "A Bit Unfair"
Pushy, abrasive, aloof, stubborn, condescending, hard to work with, difficult to work with, uncaring, prone to "blowing up" at people, impossible... The parade of gendered patriarchal microaggressions against Jill Abramson flows freely from the NYT.
Is there any way to make it clearer that you're calling her "bitchy"?
Why yes -- you could, for example, just call her "bitchy," straight-up.
But a year ago Dean Baquet "defended" his then-boss, with whom he was feuding, with a passive-aggressive microaggression.
"Every editor has a story about how she’s blown up in a meeting," one reporter said. "Jill can be impossible," said another staffer....
At times, ["staffers"] say, her attitude toward editors and reporters leaves everyone feeling demoralized; on other occasions, she can seem disengaged or uncaring....
"I think there’s a really easy caricature that some people have bought into, of the bitchy woman character and the guy who is sort of calmer," [Baquet] said. "That, I think, is a little bit of an unfair caricature."
I guess the NYT bought into that "easy caricature," though.
With Dean Baquet maybe steering them towards it.
Incidentally, Politico is now running a story, by a white woman, claiming, in the headline, that "Journalism Has a Woman Problem."
I understand why this piece was written. I also understand why a white woman in the media would wish to agitate for hiring and promoting more white women in the media.
But what I can't quite understand is why Politico chooses to publish this piece, while continuing to ignore the American Prospect's expose on how white the leftwing media is, especially the online leftwing media.
I guess everyone just talks their own book.
