Gaming Thread 1/19/2014
Here is a picture of a blob of people in the biggest ships in EVE playing games that isn't EVE.
Gonna be a short one as I'm spent after yesterday's EVE battle. It was the biggest fight in it's history. Not much else to say about the fight other than it was one of those moments where a game makes you hate your life. At least the node didn't crash though everyone wished it did.
stuff below
December NPD
Well, sales were flat as all hell which is a troubling aspect since new hardware hit the market.
Xbox One sold 906k units in December and PS4 sold 863k units. On last gen stuff, 360 moved 643k units and PS3 sold 299k units. With the bundles they did, that PS3 number is disappointing.
On Twitter, Aaron Greenberg said that retail wise, XBox outsold Sony in software, 4.8 million to 4.2 million with 1.5 million of that being first and second party in comparison to Sony's 599k. Dead Rising sold 526K, Forza 457K and Ryse 431K (these are LTD sales). With those numbers, you can extrapolate that Zoo Tycoon sold around 86k.
The software ratio of games per system (retail wise) ended up 2.10 on PS4 with XBox One getting 2.64 (with digital included, it's around 2.9. A lot of people bought Killer Instinct). The PS4 number is world wide but no idea on the Xbox One number.
Of course that does mean that third party software did better on the PS4 than they did on the Xbox One which shouldn't be surprising since if you weren't interested in Killzone, you were stuck with buying a third party game.
Gran Turismo 5 is one of the biggest bombs of the year as it opened to under 180k sales in it's launch month. Worldwide total is around half a million. Though the series always has a long tail, it's coming nowhere close to the typical 6 million in sales that the series gets.
Vita, it's past the point of being comical in it's sales as it sold less than 96k units. You can fit it's 2013 total year sales into Sega Saturn's launch month.
What's an Ouya?
As for Nintendo, only real numbers is that the Wii U sold about 481k units and the 3DS sold somewhere around a 1.1 million units.
Iwata did what he does best and apologized for the disappointing sales of the Wii U and 3DS by finally slashing their absurd Sales Projections. Wii U was dropped from their 9 million units to 2.8 and the 3DS projection was slashed from 18 million units to 13.5. Wii U software from 38 million to 18 million and 3DS software from 80 million to 66 million.
And even though he strongly hinted that he would step down if they didn't make 100 billion yen in profit, he has said that he won't be resigning nor shake up management even though they're projecting a 35 billion yen loss this year (this is the third year in a row of losses).
They did say that they're mulling new business models.

News
• ESRB gave Conception 2 a Mature rating. This is the RPG from Altus where you mate with girls and have your offspring fight for you. Out for 3DS and Vita later this year.
• No Halo movie
• Frogwares (people behind the Sherlock Holmes games) is making a game based on the Old Ones. If they stick to what they did with Awakened and Jack The Ripper entries in the Holmes series, I'll be quite interested in this.
• D.I.C.E released their award finalists. Nothing interesting, all of them are what you would expect You can see it here in PDF format.
• Can't say I had much expectations for the upcoming Plants VS Zombies: Garden Warfare but this new walkthrough has changed my mind. Just wish it wasn't coming out two weeks before TitanFall
• Speaking of TitanFall, it's getting it's own Xbox One themed controller with a $5 premium.
• New trailer for the upcoming Octodad Dadliest Catch
• First design change inbound for the upcoming Steam controller.
• FTC, saving people from themselves. Apple and FTC settled on an agreement for kid's buying IAP.
• Someone finally wrote this up since I had no clue what I was watching let alone being in a spot to explain it. Ever wondered how far you can push assists in speed running? I think this is the coolest thing. Best thing of this piece of crap Gaming Thread.
• Playdek going the Kickstarter route for their upcoming SRPG by Yasumi Matsuno (Vagrant Story, Final Fantasy Tactics).
• Three months later, Telltale says that the second episode of their Fables game should see a release. I'll personally believe it when I see it. And to be fair, they did leave themselves an out as they don't specify that it's February of this year
• Fox looks to pour gas on a huge pile of cash and light a match as they announced plans for a Magic The Gathering movie franchise.
• Sim City finally gets an offline mode.
That's it, I'm done. I would post new releases but there isn't anything coming out.

Here's a not-very-safe-for-work Girlie Pic to close the post.
