Obama, Get This, Pivots to the Economy
Those words have lost all meaning. This is NBC, so don't bother clicking.
The president was seeking to put the emphasis on the economy on a day when new data showed that employment surged by a net 204,000 jobs in October even as the unemployment rate rose to 7.3 percent. Those numbers exceeded analysts’ predictions of job creation after the lengthy government shutdown brought on by partisan disagreement over the health care law.
It requires 300,000 or 350,000 new jobs per month to reduce the rate of unemployment; the 300-350,000 level represents the dividing line between a good economy and a poor one.
But NBC has decided that yet another consecutive month featuring, get this, terrible job numbers is a month in which job creation "surged."
“The unemployment rate still ticked up and we don't yet know all the data for this -- this final quarter of the year, but it could be down because off what happened in Washington, “ he said. “Now that -- that makes no sense. These self-inflicted wounds don't have to happen. They should not happen again. We should not be injuring ourselves every few months.”
Incidentally, 213,000 adults entered the workforce this past month, so Obama's "surging" economy failed to create enough jobs to even keep pace with population increase. As a result, the actual labor participation level fell, yet again.
Can you feel the surge?
So, he's pivoting to the economy. You know -- his Bread and Butter. I wouldn't have bothered to link this story at all except it contains this wonderful quote from Obama, about Healthcare.gov's woes:
"I wanted to go in and fix it myself, but I don't write code," [Obama] said of Healthcare.gov.
I'll be you did, Captain Daydreams.
