Gaming thread 10/6/13

Here is my Halloween post from last year (and my first all by myself gaming post). Everything still stands.

I'm still giving you some stuff for this week so don't worry.

stuff below....

News

For some reason, Treasure is going through the Steam Greenlight process to get their game, Ikaruga onto the service

Twitch gets a $20 million investment, still nowhere close to what they actually need especially with the console masses getting ready to stream there with the release of the PS4 and XBO. The service is going to be even more brutal than it currently is now with League of Legends tournaments. Frankly, they really need someone who has a clue about server upgrades.

So Keiji Inafune and company raised just over $4 million for their Mighty No. 9 game on kickstarter. Wonder how Capcom feels all about this...

In an attempt to try something new, Nintendo is scrapping the concept of having a dungeon order in the upcoming Zelda: A Like Between Worlds by having it so you can rent or straight up buy items. Don't know how I feel about this but at least they're trying something new though it comes down to balancing in how much the items actually cost.

• Frictional Game's countdown finally ended and it's a trailer for their upcoming SCP Foundation flavored game.

• Bungie released a new trailer and news that yeah, there will be a beta in the spring for Destiny

CCP's Internal Affairs sleeping on the job? Of course. Sure, it's not on the level of the T20 incident but it's still shiesty

The Warcraft movie gets a release date, December 18th, 2015. It's directed by Duncan Jones (Moon and Source Code). There is enough good lore to make a good flick but I'm curious in how people are going to react to it.

• So the first episode of the upcoming Fables game, The Wolf Among Us is almost upon us as they threw up pre-orders for the season on Steam and Telltale's own site. It's going to be interesting in seeing how Telltale react after getting the response from the Walking Dead game and Pierre Shorette (main writer for the game) has some seriously large shoes to fill with doing a prequel in Bill Willingham's universe.

• this seems like the way to go in the future when it comes to bot matches

• Are you curious in what hardware are going to be in Valve's prototypes for the Steam Machines? Here they are

Random Stuff

The iOS adaptation of Tanto Cuore by Playdek came out this past week. The theme is interesting as it's all about collecting moe lolita female maids that you either employ or lock up in your chamber. And of course, your currency also happens to be called Love which are cards that contain a little moe girl bent over, gripping a pillow tightly. The game is a pretty good Dominion clone if you can get over the theme IMO. The reaction of the board gaming community has been hilarious but expected with people calling others pedos and stuff for liking it.

If you can get over the theme, it's worth the $3 but I don't know how long this game will have a community though.

These two are on the extreme end

Audiosurf 2 also kinda came out this past week on Steam for $15. I say kinda as it's one of those "early access" still in alpha/beta releases. At this point, it's not really worth buying it atm as it seems really early but it does feel like the algorithm has been tweaked a bit as the tracks feel more in synch with the music. The wake boarding portion is interesting but I don't wish it was featured so predominately as it gets boring real fast. If you do decide to buy it, for the love of Christ, download the mono nitro mod as with it's speed, it's a whole different game. BabyMetal is still the best when it comes to really hard tracks and Geskia! and Cuushe are my go to artists for chill but still fun tracks. Honestly can't recommend it atm unless you were a hardcore fan of the first AudioSurf game.

New Releases

Beyond: Two Souls (PS3) - Press X to Jason....wait wrong game. Press X to Jodie...yep, that's it. David Cage's new game comes out this week. Expect about 10 hours of really bad B movie level writing while looking nice and quick time events that make no sense in the context of what the character is actually doing in the game. But this time, you do get Ellen Paige walking around in her underwear (game with soul) and William Dafoe being William Dafoe. I'm obviously not a fan of what Quantic Dream does but there is a market for it as they sell well for mid-tier games

Pokemon X & Y (3DS) - Yep, two new Pokemon games this time in 3D. Pokemon is Pokemon I guess. Your standard differences in the series between the two games, all depends on what pokemon you want to start off with and which ones you want to evolve (still a great racket). You do have to wait till December if you want to import you pokemon from the older games though. And
if you're going to be picking one or both of them up on Saturday, your best deal is Toys R Us's current deal of Buy One, Get One 40% Off on 3DS games.

Disgaea D2: A Brighter Darkness (PS3) - Well, it's only fitting to get a direct sequel of the first game after 10 years of side stories and offshoots. I really don't want to remember all of the hours I dumped into this series over the years even though having a whole game based around trying to find Etna's underwear was interesting. Expect what you typically get from the series, solid SRPG gameplay with tons of content, a decent tone of humor and some horrible English voiceover.

This was posted last year but it still stands as my favorite games for Halloween

Short post this week, I know, but that's it this week.
