Gaming Thread

Ryan Davis passed away on the 4th, almost a week after he got married. He was half the reason why I liked Giant Bomb, he always seemed genuine with the mindset of "wait, we get paid to cover videogames?".

My list of gaming journalists that don't make me want to murder small children has now shrunk to 4.

Not much news this week.

News

  • Dude got's his shiney ship blown up in EVE. In a horrible real world money equilivent, it was worth about $9500. It was the first player owned Revenant destroyed (CCP flew one that got destroyed to kick off the release of Faction Warfare)
  • Iwata: "Some developers have become pessimistic about the Wii U". He still isn't resigning.
  • Yves Guillemot (UbiSoft CEO) says that they have no plans for a sequel to Zombie U after it didn't come close to making it's investment back even with it being the best selling third party game for the new console
  • New trailer for Dragon's Crown, which comes out in a few weeks on the Vita and Ps3
  • Not the best port (that would be the Dreamcast release) but Capcom VS SNK 2 hits the PS2 Classics section of PSN this week for a Hamilton.

  • As Riot announces that they secured the Staples Arena in L.A. for this year's championship (which I would be shocked if it's not a sold out show), the real news is that the US government has now recognized League of Legends as a legit sport with players getting professional athlete visas
  • Now, I can't say anything about the new 360 dashboard beta since as expected it's all NDA to hell but people who complained about Microsoft points who are now complaining about real world values make me laugh.

  • Through and through, I'm not a fan of kickstarter but yet I find myself oddly tempted to back Privateer Press and WhiteMoon Dream's attempt to turn the awesome WARMACHINE tabletop game into a digital version, if nothing more than for the seven exclusive model sculpts.
  • The direct sequel to the first Disgaea, Disgaea D2 got it's US release date (October 8th) and some cool collector's editions through the NIS store
  • Rockstar finally releases a gameplay trailer for GTAV

New Releases of July 14th - July 20th

  • Shin Megami Tensei IV for the 3DS at the extreme SRP of $50.
  • Time and Eternity for Ps3

  • Dynasty Warriors 8 for the PS3 and 360

  • Sales

  • Like, if you ever wanted to spend about $5 for a 1000 hours of content, Spiderweb Software is the focus on this week's Humble Sale.
  • Also on Thursday, Valve kicked off their summer sale on Steam. Frankly, so far it's been on the same level of horribleness of the sales of the last few years.

That's about it, it was a really light week for news and what not.
