#TeamHometown & The Return of the B.J. (Gaming thread)

Sorry for last week, I messed up but the show must go on so gaming below

The Dude back with more content

Bethseda finally announced what MachineGames (ex-Starbreeze people who did stuff like the Chronicles of Riddick games) has been working on these last few years and it's a new entry in the Wolfenstein series, starring the titular character, B.J Blazkowicz. Hopefully it's better than Raven's attempt to reboot the franchise with Wolfenstein.

Thankfully Warren Spector apologized for getting sand in his naughty bits after he spazzed out on facebook about the game

Just over a week away from Microsoft finally unveiling the new Xbox. Really hoping that they in fact do marry together the WinRT and new console. Throw in say something like a PLEX client and they will be on a good leg to stand on while boosting the app adoption. Was thinking of possibly setting up a IRC channel or something for the conference but I dunno, if you have some ideas on what to do or if you even think it's worth it, give a shout in the comments.

Since Aksys and Rising Star Games won't be releasing any new releases from legendary shmup devs, Cave, due to the lack of sales in the west, Cave dropped some good news on twitter that their upcoming port of the latest game in the Dodonpachi series, Dodonpachi Saidaioujou, will in fact be region free. Throw in the lackluster worth of the Yen, being able to play this game for about $60 plus shipping isn't that bad of a deal. Or of course you can just wait for the bargain Best of release of the game at the end of the year.

In Sony's shareholder call, among other things, they announced that they have sold 1.8 million Vitas units worldwide since it's December 17th, 2011 Japanese launch date. Sony claims that they expect to sell 10 million PSP and Vita units this current fiscal year.

In news that you figured already happened, Gamestop to finally take PS2 trade ins on June 1st

Atlus released the Amazon and Wizard gameplay trailers for Dragon's Crown

Top it off, we are getting the Japanese artbook if you pre-order the game (all ready dropped my $50 for the PS3 version). August 6th can't come fast enough.

Also, if anyone remembers my favorite horror games writeup from Halloween, you will remember that I gushed like a little girl when talking about my love of the Fatal Frame series, especially with the second game. Well, this past week, Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly got the PS2 Classic treatment on the PSN. Now, I personally feel that if you can play it (though backwards compatible, it doesn't run that great on a 360) and afford a copy (about $30 for a used copy on eBay), the director's cut on the Xbox is the better version but it doesn't matter. This game is pure bliss and it's a no brainer in picking it up for the small sum of $10.

And speaking of PS2 Classics, this week we get the re-release of Brian Cox's greatest role of all-time in the brutal stealth game, Manhunt.

Sony is expected to announce the new entry in the Gran Turismo series this week. And entry for Gran Turismo 6 for the PS3 has been popping up on sites already these past few weeks and being quickly pulled. Coming "Soon" sometime in 2020.

Amazon currently has good deal on the PC release of the latest Hitman game. It's $4.99 for the base game and $8.99 for the collector's edition (artbook pdf, making of video and some extra guns)

Sid Meier released the first game that he actually worked on in almost 10 years this past week with the release of Ace Patrol on the iOS. It's a really fun World War I turnbased dogfighting game that borrows quite a bit from boardgame Ace of Aces while throwing in X-Com style rpg progression of your pilots. It's a free five mission demo with a $1 to buy the British campaign and another $4 to buy the France, American and German planes (they're called campaigns but it's the same stuff as the British campaign be it with different planes that all feel unique). Can also buy named pilots/skins from WWI for $5 (you can buy them piecemeal but they're $1 each and there are 8 of them so it's worth just dropping the $5 if you want them)

Rodeo Games released a video of gameplay of their upcoming Warhammer Quest game

After four years of The Sims 3 and it's countless expansion packs (I've seriously lost count on how many there are), EA announced that The Sims 4 will be coming out sometime next year And EA was quick to point out that it will have a single player offline mode

Frostbite engine technical director, Johan Anderson, says that they can't even get Frostbite 2 to run at acceptable levels on the Wii U. Considering that EA is planning on using the Frostbite engine pretty much exclusively for next gen, that's a really bad sign on where the EA & Nintendo "Unprecedented Partnership" stands.

In a moment of populism de jure, EA wants nothing to do with gun and accessory manufacturers but want their named guns in their games by liberally stretching the terms of fair use.. Hope someone sues them as this would be a ground breaking Supreme Court case on the limits of fair use, but then again, I'm no lawyer so I dunno.

Also on the call, EA announced that PopCap will be releasing Plants Vs. Zombies 2 in July on pretty much everything that isn't Nintendo

Wasn't a big fan of the first screenshot of Telltale's upcoming Fables game but these new screenshots of Fables: The Wolf Among Us really changed my mind. Hopefully this time Telltale won't release a game with Obsidian level of bugs

Flying Wild Hog, devs of the under-rated Hard Reset for the PC are getting a chance to make a new Shadow Warrior

That is about it
