Soooo...Games? Sure. Gaming thread!

Afternoon My friends, Zakn leading the way. I'm gonna be pretty shameless in my section recruiting from the Horde. My leadership has been extremely impressed by the Morons and 'Ettes that have come on board, and they have asked me to re-double my efforts. I promise this will be the last time I'm going to shamelessly recruit.

If you are a bored PC (or Mac) gamer and are looking for something deep, this is your shot to jump in with both feet. We'll help you out with ships, fits, and mentors.

Anyways Videos and walls of text, below the fold

Test has a new Vid. I always like Test Vids

As for whats up in the North? Yea...It's a grind. But purposely so.

I asked a recent Ette joiner to write up something for me, and here it is:

I'm a lurker no more. About seven weeks ago I made a decision to change games -- I had played World of Warcraft in a large raiding guild for close to seven years, but after doing pretty much the same thing every other night I was ready for something different. It was Zakn that nudged me into Empire Space. You see, when I quit WoW, I was really looking for something really different -- something that would challenge the way I think and the way I play a game. For those of us who game, you know what I'm talking about. Those who play MMO's especially understand the concept of min/max-ing and trying to do the most with your character. You read the wikis and forums, use spreadsheets and just plain geek out about the whole thing to really perform the best that you can. I had heard about EvE's steep learning curve and after reading Zakn's post here on the HQ, I decided to take the leap and do a trial.

Sure enough, getting your feet wet in space was a bit challenging, but after grinding through some websites and following the tutorials, I felt like I had a pretty good grasp of EvE and was happily mining away -- maxing my ISK production as best as I thought could. The one thing I was really enjoying about EvE was how relaxing it was. No longer was I having to log in at a set time and raid with 10 to 25 other people, I could just lurk... hop into my mining ship, watch TV, check my blogs, and just chill -- a nice way to end the day. It was exactly what I thought I needed... I could be a nice little anonymous miner in a big freaking galaxy... that was until Zakn caught me lurking in the AoSHQ chat.

I think I asked a harmless question and he dragged me aside and we started chatting about nullsec... a completely different part of the game that I thought I had no interest in playing in. I thought I had left behind the world of competitive gaming, but the more Zakn talked about the thrills of nullsec PvP, of huge alliances, of massive warfare and the possibilities of billions of ISK... I began to rethink about what I was doing. Sure my time in hisec was calm, but it did lack the camaraderie that I enjoyed when playing MMOs. For those of you who don't game, it's like having a hobby group, a bowling league, or a hunting group that you get to hook up with almost every night instead of those odd occasions when everyone's schedule can mesh. It's a place where you can allow the days stresses to melt away and do something fun with people who have the same goals as you. What Zakn was describing to me was the exact thing I really had been missing, and while I was never a PvP gamer (apart from FPSs), I decided I'd give it a go.

So I joined Zakn's corp and this last Friday I went on my first roam. In simple terms, it was a kin to cruising our turf looking for trouble to get into and remind our neighbors that our turf is defined by where we are not where they think the boundaries are. Now I can't even pretend I knew what I was doing. I fell behind, in combat I failed to even tag the bogies much less shoot at them, but I managed to stay alive and see what the main attraction in this game really is. It was a blast and I found where the steep learning curve really is. But mostly it was fun because I was a part of something again. No one got angry because I was a noob, I just had to keep up the best I could. And between Zakn coaching me and the on-the-roam-training, I am ready to do it again and again. I have come to appreciate something new and thrilling. I still look forward to making some big ISK and having some quiet nights, but mostly I look forward to the new aspect of Eve that I've been introduced to.

SO whether your a noob, a returning player, or someone who likes to just lurk in the background like me...you should poke your head into the AoSHQ chat and say something... any dumb ol' question will do. I think you'll quickly find a home with like minded people and you'll likely find your self doing something new for a change that will challenge you on all sorts of levels. After all the purpose of gaming is more than just a diversion, but an opportunity to problem solve in a fun environment.

And yeah, I lurk on AoS too.

Thanks GB. There's great Mining to be had in Null when we aren't at War, so she'll see that eventually. One of the Execs wanted to post something as well, so here that is

Hi Morons!

Zakn told me it's ok to call you that so please don't shoot the messenger. I'm the director of recruiting for Paxton Industries, a corp living in the most fun and dangerous region of EVE space deep in nullsec. Over the past week or so we've recruited several morons and I've been impressed with how well they've adapted and the enemies they've blown up. If you're looking to join an active and organized corp or looking to get into EVE and PvP in general, don't hesitate to join "Paxton" chat in-game and talk with a recruiter today.

Hi,

Not much happening this past week in gaming so this will be quick and short.

Jack Tretton let something slip, CCP aims to release Dust 514 sometime this month. Don't get me wrong, the game is okay but it's too early as it needs quite a bit of polish. But maybe it's not a bad time to launch it as Sony has absolutely nothing to release this season. Seriously, look at the releases coming out this Holidays and the list is empty outside of CoD and Assassins Creed with everything aiming to come out around March as everyone launches their final major games for this generation of software.

Speaking of CCP, I rejoined my fellow CIA frontmen in the wonderful world of EVE. Maybe I can stick with this game for more than a month or two.( Background )

GOG's major release this week was Carmageddon and if you're honest with your self, that game has aged horribly but then again, that's par for the course when it comes to old 3D games.

After a bit of countdown confusion, Pentavision started taking pre-orders for DJMAX Technika Tune. Outside of the first LE, I do believe they had the quickest sellout at 30 hours which is quite something as it's a niche series and no one outside of the US pre-ordered it as the shipping was ridiculous (about $14 in the states, $90 for Canada and $100+ anywhere else). Throw in the bigger than normal print run of 750 of them and Pentavision has a nice hit on their hands before the game comes out. Glad I got my order in, the lineup on the OST is worth the premium for me. And speaking of Pentavision, they released a DJMAX branded version of TapSonic for the iOS Thursday morning which thankfully isn't as big of a rip off as TS was with song packs at a modest $1.99 for 5 songs.

On the SC2 front, with it being a holiday week, not much happened out of the ordinary in Code S. Leenock, HerO, MVP and MarineKing has secured their places in the round of 8. The big things to happen was all Code A as the OGN players didn't do that great to be honest. Only RorO made you take notice, even with Flash playing this past week as well. I do have to say that it's interesting in seeing people not afraid of Flash. Now, he's still in the transition phase but the way that people are kinda looking down on him is like I said, interesting considering his dominance in SC1. Wish NaNiwa would have won his matchup considering he probably is the second best foreigner (still take Stephano over him) in the world but it is what it is.

TellTale annouced that the fourth episode of The Walking Dead will be out in October......yeah, they really should never announce any release date considering how hard of a problem they've always had when it comes to dates. But they're trying to get a disc version out before Christmas so at least they are somewhat motivated to finish this season.

Eurogamer's GetGames site has finally started taking pre-orders for Hotline Miami. Really looking forward to that game (considering Retro City Rampage is MIA).

Obsidian's Project Eternity has crossed the 2.1 million mark with another 16 days to go.

And in other news....yep, Vita still dead though with a new wrinkle, Sony still has no idea on what the system is good at.

Jesus Bynum saves us once again from EA releasing a crappy product as they canceled their upcoming NBA Live 13. Two years without a basketball game and I still have a hard time how the shareholders don't have John Riccitiello's head on a stake. Hell, just release this year's game on the Wii U, Nintendo fanboys won't know the difference.

Well, Peter Molyneux has finally submitted his social experiment, Curiosity:What's Inside the Cube to Apple. I seriously hope the secret is a picture of his twig and berries. With any luck that should be out this week.

Thanks For putting up with the Wall of Text, if you want to hit me on twitter, you can do that Here. If you want to submit a post for the thread shoot an email to aoshqgaming at gmail dot com. I won't be writing the post next week, as i'll be in Vegas for Eve Vegas! Gents is making a large showing, and we have a Scotch tasting event that I'm looking forward to. If you are a Moron in Vegas, and want to have a beer, twitter or that gaming email is your best bet.

Good luck, and Fuck the SCoaMF.
