Gaming Thread, Weekly Edition!

Good Afternoon Gentleman (and Ettes), This is your friendly Gaming Moron Zakn. Last weekend it seemed everyone thought the entire post was written by me (Zakn), as I got some random Twitter messages about content posted by other people. I have encouraged them to sack up and get on the Twitters. So Please, note who is writing what, and refer your comments to them! TIA :)

Judging by what everyone is playing, it looks like our best bet for a Moron Gaming night is TF2. It's Free to Play, so that helps! So...

SERVERS FOR MORONS! I've never been a Server Admin or have clue one on running a TF2 server (or L4D2). So i'm putting up the Ewok signal for anyone that has close ties into a gaming community. See if they'll let us borrow one of their servers for a night. Talk to your bros. Or if you are a Server Admin yourself, let me know! I would love to have a Moron Night on a good 32 man TF2 Payload map, PLR, or whatever! Good clean fun. With cursing! And Gibs! I don't want to embed above the fold, so This makes me miss Competitive TF2 Play so much. It's such a blast. Coordinated Uber pushes roar!

Last weekend I talked a little about the 3DS. I had watched a bunch of Video from PAX East in Boston. Here's the Giant Bomb Panel, which was quite humorous: Bombcast at PAX

Anyway, Just like past PAX's I had watched, everyone was doing handheld gaming while they waited to get into booths, or panels etx. As I wasn't really enjoying iOS gaming too much at work (besides nuking the hell out of my iPhone's battery), I decided that I was in the market for a handheld gaming platform. Consulting with resident ONT Gaming God The Dude, I decided to go with a 3DS. If you don't know, the 3DS is a handheld gaming system made by Nintendo. It features a Glass-less 3D display that is actually quite good. Go check it out at Walmart or Bestbuy the next time you have a moment to kill.

Cost, Games, and widespread Adoption were my top reasons to go with the 3DS over the Sony Vita. It comes in at a MSRP of $169 but can be grabbed on sale for as little as $149. The 3DS is a different enough platform that most Game Devs will put a version of a major title they are doing there as well. As for Adoption, they sold like 4 million of them over Christmas. Plus it's backwards compatible to DS games. So all that learning stuff for your kid is available. A co-worker of mine was thinking of getting one instead of an iPod touch for his kid. The Quality of Games, The 3D, and the fact that it has Parental Controls was a real plus for him. Plus then he can bring it to work and I can whip his ass in Street Fighter 4 3D during lunch. Walmart.com was doing a Buy 3 for $30 deal on games earlier. It wasn't the best titles, but it's a good deal. Keep your eyes peeled, stingy Morons (and Ettes).

I don't know about you, but I really like it when Games evoke memories from Movies, or experiences I've had in real life. This Level made me think of a scene Chronicles of Riddick. The Scene where they are racing accross the surface of Creamatoria and Kira is about to get WTFBBQ'd

You can't screw around on that level. When I beat it the first time, I hit that last Clock bonus as I was going counting down from 1 to 0. So I was like GET THAT ASS MOVING! And yes, Pitch Black and Chronicles of Riddick are the only movies with Vin Diesel in it that I liked. I am also thinking the Burn Jita thing is doing the same thing as the opening of Red Dawn. Drawing that circle ever closer. But more on that later.

Oh. The Walking Dead game is out. They say the game follows the books more, rather than the Series. The preview I saw looked decent. I'm not sure if it's out on XBLA yet. Thats where i'd buy it. It's expensive in Steam compared to 400 points I think. The main writer on it is Gary Whitta. He wrote The Book of Eli. Yes I know he's a libtard. I listen to him bloviate every week on the Tested podcast. You can listen to him chat about the game here.

Love it when Games get that heart pumping a bit. And now to the Eve Section. Eve is really the only game that has "given me the shakes". When you get into some really good fights, you get a killer adrenaline dump, or at least I do.

By the time you are reading this, Burn Jita should be wrapping up, but stay safe. For those that don't know the Deklein Coalition, or the CFC, is laying waste to the major trade hub of the Game. We have even got a log in warning screen from CCP. Shout out to my CFC Bros!

At some point I expect a true Jihad to be declared and all neuts to be shot at, so stay Frosty out there if you are vulturing about. I got one more gank before the Faction Police will hunt me down in Jita, so I'm saving it for another freighter! Got it! This is what the police response is when you gank a freighter with nearly 200 Destroyers. Those white Pluses are the police.

In my notes I had wanted to write about being a noob in Eve. It's a tough lot in life. I just passed a year in game myself, and have fond memories of tutorial missions. Someone posted in the Steam Group and on Last weeks thread about just joining up, and what should they do. If you haven't subscribed and are on a trial, chat with a fellow Moron about the Buddy system. If they are the cool dudes that I think they are, they will sell the PLEX they get when you subscribe and give you all the ISK from the sale. That will fund your Space Career and actually have a ton of fun in this game without doing terrible things like running missions, or for goodness sakes mining. Don't mine this month btw, Helicity kicked off Hulkageddon and it is fully underway. There's tons of resources out there for you, but just like everything in EVE, take it with a ton of salt.

Zakn wrote about being a noob in EVE. That’s me, since I’ve been playing for a week. Being the cool dude that he is, Zakn sent me 495 million ISK after I upgraded my trial. Now I’m rich and I don’t need to grind missions or mine for ISK. If you want to play EVE, take his advice and use the Buddy system.

If that isn’t enough to make you ill, we now have a Video Game Czar. Yes, Obama appointed a new Czar, Constance Steinkuehler.

A self-proclaimed "siege princess" who cut her academic teeth playing and studying multiplayer online games such as World of Warcraft and Lineage, Steinkuehler jokes that gaming has helped prepare her to lead such a broad effort across agency lines. "I was a guild leader for 3½ years online, so I've spent plenty of time sort of herding cats."

Steinkuehler says the job represents "an incredible opportunity to make good on the claim that games have real promise."

What does that even mean? Real promise? They promise to keep me entertained, and they deliver, at least until the feds get their hands on them. A guild leader in WoW? Let's just say that I am not impressed, at all, not even a tiny bit. And "siege princess"? Free ISK to the best photoshops of that.
