Big E's Last Deployment
Today, USS Enterprise deploys for her 22nd and last time and to a region that is starting to really heat up. USNI has a nice little piece highlighting some of her accomplishments during her 52 years of service. Last Lap For Enterprise CVAN/CVN-65.
When Enterprise joined the fleet in October of 1961, she was one of 24 carriers, and the only nuclear-powered carrier, in a Navy of 870 ships. Today she is one of 11 nuclear-powered carriers in a Navy of 285 ships.
We'll never get to that number of ships again. I wonder if we'll ever see another carrier named Enterprise. It seems we're stuck with naming them after politicians (some with no real accomplishments) and in some cases lefty activists.
Fair winds and following seas to the crew of USS Enterprise as you head into harms way.
