"But you're right, we haven't really gotten the credit for what we have done, but we will take it to the voters and have a Democratic majority to follow through on it," the Speaker added.
Pelosi's remarks reflect a growing trend of frustration expressed by Democratic leaders on Capitol Hill and at the White House. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said last week that Democrats' biggest failure in this election has been to not adequately sell their accomplishments to voters, while White House press secretary Robert Gibbs joked to the New York Times that he hadn't "been at a policy-problem meeting in 20 months."
This is the claim of hyperpartisan liberals who cannot accept the country isn't liberal, but actually center-right. Bill Maher says this; the lefty blogs say this. This is the go-to meme from the angry online left, and so of course Obama & Co. must parrot it.
Speaking of credit: 60 Minutes highlighted the grinding unemployment last night, noting the real un/underemployed rate is 17% (actually it's 17.5%, but close enough) and in California it's 22%:
As detailed in the attached report, Senator Reid and the Nevada Democratic Party received numerous contributions from individuals associated with Arcata Associates, a small defense contractor headquartered in Las Vegas, Nevada. Senator Reid, in turn, inserted "earmarks" that benefited Arcata Associates shortly after receiving some of these donations. The earmarked projects were wasteful and unwanted. The Obama Administration requested the elimination of at least one Reid-Arcata Associates earmark from the Department of Defense Appropriations bill.
Nonetheless, Senator Reid persisted to ensure that his major donor received funding. In all, Senator Reid has steered $3.36 million to Arcata Associates, while he and the Nevada Democratic Party took in well over $100,000 in contributions from individuals affiliated with Arcata Associates.
