Crime at lowest levels in decades, yet prisons are packed. Obama/Democrats baffled, move to reduce prison sentences.
They really DO think the public is stupid. Packed prisons? Less crime? Pure coincidence.
For years, it was one of the GOP’s most potent political epithets – labeling a Democrat “soft on crime.”
But the Obama White House has taken the first steps in decades to move away from a strict lock-‘em-up mentality on crime – easing sentences for crack cocaine possession, launching a top-to-bottom review of sentencing policies and even sounding open to reviewing guidelines that call for lengthy prison terms for people convicted of child pornography offenses...
I suppose we should be thankful the Democrats are so tone deaf and willing to recharge the soft on crime issue by ummmm...
being obviously soft on crime.
My take is this simply demonstrates that Democrats are bad at perception math. Clearly they think two negative issues (for them) added together will result in a net zero number. While that indeed works for number type math, perception math works somewhat differently.
ex. (-2) + (-2) = -8 in perception math. Its kinda like a cubing factor where additional incremental douchbagginess ratchets up public loathing by significantly non-linear amounts as your douchbagginess factor moves from the "suspected" column into the "confirmed" column.
As a practical matter, I think that perception column switch happens at around the point where some politician has blown through the public's sensibilities on an issue 3 times.
Rather than getting away with this and having it fly under the radar, I suspect its going to solidify the independents against them once word gets out. The indies are already hacked off about a couple of things, and another is going to cause that cube factor to start rocketing through the roof.
