The state of ClimateGate today, Dec 22 2009. [krakatoa]
(A series of daily-ish roundups of the day's Climate news and commentary.)
This is by no means a comprehensive recap. The stories come from a variety of sources, and I highly recommend exploring the linked sites for more breaking news.
(after the break...)
WUWT stories:
A new study suggesting a link between Global Warming and our old "nemesis" CFC's as they react to cosmic rays.
Bad news: offers evidence of Man-Made global warming.
Good news: If true, then it tells us we already fixed the problem at the same time we fixed the Ozone Hole problem.
In his research, Lu discovers that while there was global warming from 1950 to 2000, there has been global cooling since 2002. The cooling trend will continue for the next 50 years, according to his new research observations.
My kneejerk reaction to the study is that it faintly smells of the hammer/nail phenomena. Professor Lu's focus was strictly on the Ozone hole, so my inner cynic wonders if he's just finding a way to profit off of Climate Gate. Thanks CRU, Mann, et. al. for making me question a scientist's motivations before his work is even digested.
“Instead, the observed data show that CFCs conspiring with cosmic rays most likely caused both the Antarctic ozone hole and global warming. These findings are totally unexpected and striking, as I was focused on studying the mechanism for the formation of the ozone hole, rather than global warming.”
Not saying he's wrong. That's for scientists to determine. It should be interesting to find out what points of convergence his research may share with Henrik Svensmark’s theory on cosmic rays & cloud formation.
Sunspot activity is finally picking up a little, which should add more data to both theories.
By way of Climate Depot:

All in all, Copenhagen appears to be broadly considered a failure. Al Gore and other Enviro-speculators hardest hit.
Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of people. I have seen a lot of crazy money-making schemes, but the ability of these people to make literally Billions out of trading carbon credits absolutely takes the cake.
I hate giving in to world-government paranoia and post stories of the like. Simply because the prospect, while certainly a goal of many, is one destined to failure before its structure could even be fully developed. There are simply far too many national interests to make such a thing even remotely possible.
That said, just what the bloody hell does this mean?
“Never again should we face the deadlock that threatened to pull down those talks. Never again should we let a global deal to move towards a greener future be held to ransom by only a handful of countries. One of the frustrations for me was the lack of a global body with the sole responsibility for environmental stewardship.
“I believe that in 2010 we will need to look at reforming our international institutions to meet the common challenges we face as a global community.” -Gordon Brown, UK PM.
