Unemployment Numbers, or Beating a Dead Jackass [krak]
No, not Theodore Kennedy. *
It's been going on for months. Pretty much since April. But today the lengths to which the MSM is carrying Obama's water vis-a-vis the dismal Employment numbers struck me as rote monotony, as if the Media has so internalized the formula that it plays in my mind like the bored monotone of that ancient and tenured professor who has lost the passion for his work, but carries on for the paycheck (and for the movement) nontheless.
It's the same-old, same-old.
Update (because my in-joke was a little too 'in'). Theodore because I was just playing with the name, since somehow John F's name became 'Jack', and I can't help but think Teddy wished he had been a Theodore.
Hiding the larger problem behind a positive headline -
Jobless claims hit 9-month low
Finding the silver lining behind the unrelenting numbers -
The number of U.S. workers filing new claims for jobless insurance fell more-than-expected to a nine-month low last week, data showed, suggesting the labor market was healing despite a setback in September.
and
The number of people collecting long-term unemployment benefits fell 72,000 to 6.04 million in the week ended September 26, the latest week for which the data is available. That was the lowest level since late March and was below market expectations for 6.1 million.
While offering just the slightest nod to the underlying and ongoing only explanation given that nobody other than the Government is hiring right now -
However, the decline could also indicate many jobless workers have exhausted their benefits.
Educated takeaway: The economy may, finally, be bottoming out, but unemployment is still huge. And there are no signs that a recovery on employment numbers are on the horizon.
Uneducated takeaway: Skittles! I LOVE Skittles.
