Good evening all morons and moronettes. And also gingers who apparently make up 28% of the ONT audience. AoSHQ has always been about teh hate, but the new AoS is also about revenue and marketing opportunities. So be sure and check out the gift shop for all your ginger gift and accessory needs. The daywalker hoodies make especially nice birthday presents.
Item #1:I Hate My Parents
Yep, this is why we're now in therapy. And it's also why Mom and Dad will eventually be going to separate third-tier nursing homes. Seems harsh? Well I point you to exhibit A at the above link.
Item #2:Survivorman Or Man Vs. Wild
The truth is I like both of them and tivo both shows. Bear Grylls in Man vs Wild is pretty badass and overall is better television. But a lot of what he does is staged and he spends most nights in a local hotel. On the other hand Les Stroud of Survivorman actually does spend a week in the wild by himself. So when he eats bugs, you know it's because he's so damned hungry that even bugs look good. The downside to the show is that mere survival is sometimes kinda boring.
Of course both of these men are pussies compared to the real deal: Dick Proenneke
In 1968 after a career as a carpenter and diesel mechanic, Pronneke decided to retire to a remote lake in Alaska. Over 16 months he built a cabin using nothing but hand tools including some that he made himself. Once the cabin was built he lived there fulltime for the next 30 years only returning to the lower 48 occasionally to see his family. In 1999 at the age of 82 with his health failing, he returned to civilization and lived with his brother in CA until his death in 2003. Here is some footage from a documentary he made showing how he built the cabin:
