Old Obama: The American People Elected Me to Pass This Popular Legislation They Desperately Want New Obama: The American People Elected Me to Have the Guts to Pass This Unpopular Legislation They Don't Want
How bad has Barack Obama’s slide in the polls become? So bad, Jake Tapper reports for ABC News, that the White House has abandoned the talk of mandates and now cast Obama as a courageous statesman willing to do the unpopular. Why, the world would look much different if Obama was concerned about mandates:
“If we only did what was popular in polls, the banks would have failed, there’s be no domestic automakers, and we’d pull all of our troops out of Afghanistan tomorrow …”
Rasmussen has Obama steady at 53 disapprove, 46 approve. That index thingy creeped up to -12 due to his strong approval slipping down to 28.
One of those pernicious "myths" we keep hearing about has spread like wildfire, both on the left and sometimes on the right. The myth is that Obama's slide is due to the fact he hasn't passed health care yet -- and that if he just goes full-on leftist and thugs the bill through Congress, everyone will love him again.
This article debunks that, and demonstrates that Clinton lost the Congress in 1994 not because he failed to pass health care, but because (duh) Democratic Congressmen were voting far too liberally to keep their seats in Republican-tilting districts.
And that if these same Congressmen cast yet another too-liberal vote, the Democrats would have suffered even greater losses.
Oh: And I didn't bother with this yesterday, as CNN's polls seem juiced for Obama. But even by their reckoning, a majority of independents now disapprove of Obama. 53%.
