Former Senior CIA Official Calls Pelosi a Liar
Update: Steny Hoyer Tosses Pelosi's Nonsense Under the Bus

I'm cribbing the quote from Brett Baier's show:

"It's inconceivable, absolutely inconceivable, that the briefers would not be as explicit as possible about what we were doing and what we were going to do. It's fundamental survival in our culture that you fully and completely brief."

The intelligence officer was not named. Not sure if he's an anonymous source or Baier just didn't mention his name.

Her quote:

"The brave and dedicated men and women of [the] intelligence community perform an invaluable service for our country and I want them to know how impressed we have all been by the work they do under frequently dangerous and demanding conditions. They deserve our appreciation."

She went on to praise then-House Intelligence Chair Porter Goss for his bipartisanship. He went on to lead the CIA; and he's lately been accusing Pelosi of having a highly selective memory.

This speech was delivered November 2002, two months after the briefing in which the CIA records show she was briefed about the EITs used on Zubaydah.

By the Way: I suspect the "former senior intelligence officer" giving that quote is Porter Goss. I suspect it's him, because I also suspect he tipped Baier to Pelosi's speech praising the CIA (and he himself). In other words, I think Goss was the source for the bulk of this information-dump.

Not that that undermines the quote or anything. Just background.

Steny Hoyer: I Think I'll Pass on This Wonderful Opportunity You've Afforded Me to Support my Speaker of the House... But Thanks for Asking! No, seriously, thanks.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi's deputy in the House declined to back her up on her stunning claim Thursday that the CIA misled Congress about its use of enhanced interrogation techniques.

Rep. Steny Hoyer, the House majority leader, panned the recent criticism of Pelosi as a "distraction" during a verbal tangle with Republican Whip Eric Cantor on the House floor.

But when asked directly whether he shares Pelosi's belief that the CIA misled Congress, he backed off.

"I have no idea of that. I don't have a belief of that nature because I have no basis on which to base such a belief," Hoyer said. "And I certainly hope that's not the case. And I don't draw that conclusion."

Cheney Will Appeal Obama's Refusal to Release "Torture" Docs. Yeah, we really need to shut Cheney up. It's so obvious he's doing nothing but hurt the team.

Flaming Skull Added: It probably should have been added earlier, but with all the drip-drip-drip accumulating, at some point the whole gestalt of the thing is flaming-skull-worthy. I'll just say that point is now come.

Bob Graham Claims the CIA is Just Making Stuff Up: The new meme from the left. If you forget Bob Graham, he was a Democratic Florida Senator who was on the Intelligence Committee during his service. Supposedly moderate, he ran for President in 2004 and became, if not a Truther, certainly one of the more rabid "BushHitler" style liberal panderers in his failed campaign.

He's old and busted, and now he's saying the CIA is just making up briefings that never happened, or something.

Graham then went on to repeat his claim that he had no recollection of being told about waterboarding Zubaydah or anything else about extreme interrogation.

In related news, Graham also then repeated his claim that he had "no recollection" of his last bowel movement, or the exact date upon which the moon landing was faked.

Mirror, Mirror: You know, in the Evil Alternate Universe the Democratic Party exists in, the only way to advance in rank is through blackmail and assassination.
