"From my own experience visiting the troops in the Middle East, I can tell you this though," Feherty wrote toward the end of his column. "Despite how the conflict has been portrayed by our glorious media, if you gave any U.S. soldier a gun with two bullets in it, and he found himself in an elevator with Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and Osama bin Laden, there’s a good chance that Nancy Pelosi would get shot twice, and Harry Reid and bin Laden would be strangled to death."
But Sykes? Funny.
I'm not sure if this got covered on the main page over the weekend. If it was, my apologies for double-posting.
Here the media cheers like girls at a Beatles concert when Obama says, accurately, "Many of you covered me; all of you voted for me."
He noticed us! He noticed us! Tell Rahm to tell Obama we might like him, but only if he likes us back.
They're cheering the admission of the elephant in the room. It's liberating, I guess.
Here's some of Sykes' performance.
Making a cheap joke about Sarah Palin's daughter's pregnancy:
And then of course calling Limbaugh the 20th hijacker, and hoping Limbaugh's kidneys fail:
Another clip of Obama's own continuing Limbaugh fixation at Radio Equalizer.
The comedian at the correspondents' dinner usually takes shot at the president. Not this year. Not this president. All of Sykes' barbs were directed at Obama's enemies, in between her direct advocacy for Obama himself. (Thank God he's finally paying teachers more, she exults, unaware, I guess, that he's actually screwing over DC schoolchildren in order to pay off the teachers' unions.)
It's an odd spectacle -- turning what has historically been a deflating moment for the president into still further exultation and still further work on his behalf against his opponents.
But Obama is notoriously thin-skinned. He wouldn't invite anyone who might take a shot at him from the podium, and he has an awful lot of very lame D-list comics willing to thy master's bidding.
