Overnight Open Thread: Saturday Night Flame War and Music Video Contributions (genghis)

We haven’t had a good flame war in months, so maybe it’s about time to remedy that. Usually LauraW handles these, but her hump is feeling a bit under the weather tonight. (Try to be creative with your insults and not just go directly into a game of “ghey chicken”) BTW, the term “ghey chicken” was coined by Dave in South Oklahoma and he has a lot of experience in these matters.

Also, if you likee, continue on with posting obscure ‘80’s videos (or from other decades as well…we’re not decadists here) and even your favorite comedy routines swiped from YouTube. In the past we’ve tried to see who can find the worst video out there (which I can trump any of you lame fucks on, as you’ll see just below the fold.) Still, I’m sure there’s plenty more suckitude out there to be found on the intermesh. (Of course you can also post your favorite long-forgotten hidden gems as well…it’s all good)

Remember that it’s best to try and use tinyurl to link your contributions or otherwise you get that annoying message about “Moveable Type doesn’t appreciate long streams of blah blah blah” or whatever it says. And then you have to redo your whole post since you can’t “go back” on your browser.

The first 3 will cause you to scoop out your eyeballs with a spoon and go after your eardrums with an ice-pick. Gets better after that though.

Or, you can watch how a successful musical career ended due to a single video (though if you look up and watch the vid of “The Stroke” you can see how he was already headed down this path…we just didn’t notice at the time because the song kicked ass).

And then there's Styx who somehow managed to extend pretentious “progressive art-rock” well into the ‘80’s, bravely staying true to the genre. Here they are at the top of their game. (We know this is “music for the thinking man” since Dennis DeYoung enunciates the word “modern” as “modren” while singing.) As in this video:

Ick. Enough of that. Something a little better maybe? This song poses a question, and the answer is an emphatic “YES!”

Maybe a little something from the band that ushered in the era of skinny ties? (Not the original MTV video but decent sound quality)

Of course you can never go wrong when your band is fronted by a former Playboy Bunny regardless if she has blue hair (She wasn’t a centerfold, just worked at one of the Bunny Clubs. I always liked the little "Betty Boop" sounds she made while singing as well).

Last one (by me anyway). Ace has posted it before. It’s actually not a bad tune, in its own goofy way (And they don't take themselves too seriously, so that helps). Or as Ace pointed out "It Rhhaawks." Or something like that.
