"He's Not My President" - How the Values of Conservatism Will Keep Us From Becoming the Looney Left Should Obama Win

I wouldn't call my outlook on life optimistic by any measure. When presented with the "glass half full/half empty" question, I'm likely to reply "Who cares if it's full or empty? What you don't understand is that the glass contains urine!" I believe that even if things go badly, you need to continue acting as if optimism is warranted and swing away right down to the last out. Pessimism is only a good option if you know all the facts, and between the natural variances in poll data and the media's outright cheerleading for "The One" this year, NONE of us know what's going to happen in November. That's why I still like reading Allahpundit's articles, even though I know he's "All GAME OVER MAN, GAME OVER All The Time": Even if I think he's got a point, I think it's important to stay focused once you've passed the point of no return. For example, it's very significant to point out that John McAmnesty is not exactly inspiring bliss among the conservative base in America while the primaries/caucuses are still going on, but once the ticket is set I think you need to realize that it takes damn near an Act of God to change the name on the top.

What I wanted to write about today is Obama Derangement Syndrome. Yeah, it's not a mental illness YET, but IF he wins in November Conservative America is going to be sorely tempted to look back at both Dubya administrations and copy the tactics of the Lunatic Left.

And who can blame them? If you went back and chronicled the claims made by the Chomsky/Soros Wing of the Democratic Party over the last 8 years, Bush was going to shred the Constitution, suspend the 2008 election (I WISH!!!), lose the war in Iraq horribly, round up dissenters and place them in Internment Camps and use our military to steal the oil of Iraq and other Mideastern Countries. I have to admit that I feel that using these tactics against Obama would be Karmic Justice, especially when he's shown tendencies to be the Fascist that Bush never became. I could get with reprinting some of those "Selected (by the MSM), Not Elected" and "Not My President" tee shirts. Obama as a Chimp has WAY too many negative connotations to ever catch on like Bush as a Chimp did, but I'm down with printing up a couple million posters of some of Slub's "Captain Bullshit" photoshops, or maybe some motivational posters of Urkel Obama on his bicycle.

While I'd LOVE to see how the media would react to this grassroots campaign of disdain for the President, I realize that it will never happen. Never. No. Freaking. Way. Conservatives will NEVER go bugshit crazy on Obama like Liberals did against Bush, because Conservatives have too much respect for the office and it's representatives.

Now don't get me wrong, Conservatives aren't big fans of government. They're not exactly weepy about the daily sacrifices of Beltway Bureaucrats. Most of us would be overjoyed if the Bureaucracy in DC was decimated and brought under control.

The difference is that Conservatives know how things work in the real world. If North Korea gets froggy and starts moving South without hotel reservations, Obama sure as hell ain't gonna send ACORN over to oppose the move. Moveon.org won't stand a post on the Ukranian border to remind the Rooskies that another invasion in their "near abroad" will have consequences. Code Pink has no problem financing terrorist groups who kill American Troops, but nobody's going to ask them to sit in front of a sonar panel in the middle of the Formosa Strait listening for the propellor signatures of Chinese fast attack boats.

No, President Obama will use the American military to enforce his foreign policies. The military that almost every conservative (except for the hardcore libertarian fringe) holds in high regard. Conservatives have seen the results of "Fifth Column" dissent on our military, and we know that internal strife encourages our foreign enemies to exploit that strife by filling body bags. We saw that the insurgency in Iraq gained steam following the Democratic Party's decision in 2004 to label the 2003 invasion of Iraq as imperialism. We've all heard the Al Quaeda propaganda tapes that spend as much time quoting American Democratic politicians as they do quoting the Koran. We see that the "Truther" movement makes foreigners more willing to believe that the Bush Administration was complicit in the 9/11 attacks. After all, if the American government isn't arresting these people and throwing them in prison, their claims MUST be true, right? Nevermind that pesky First Amendment and our history of tolerance for even lunatic speech, because most of the rest of the world could never understand that concept.

Conservatives won't go bugshit crazy on a potential Obama Administration because we realize that it will get good people killed. I don't expect the Left to acknowledge this fact and change their behavior accordingly. In fact, I expect them to use this against us whenever possible. They've already shown that they have no qualms about making all aspects of government political, and it'll take a "Road to Damascus" moment to change their tune. Yeah, we'll bitch and moan, buy some books telling us how much Obama cheated to win the election (if such books are allowed to be published in the Kinder, Gentler America that will come to pass after The One is elected), and tell jokes about the stupid things that Obama & Biden do if they ascend to the Executive Branch. We might have to exchange those jokes on invitation-only websites protected by 132 bit encryption and based in the Cayman Islands to allow them to bypass the 2009 Fairness Doctrine, but we're creative. We'll find a way.

Please don't take this post as my giving up on the upcoming election. I still think this thing's winnable. I mean "winnable", since a "win" (where you've got to keep a close eye on your starting quarterback to keep him from handing out 24,000 season tickets to non-paying fans of another team or speaking out about the "inherent unfairness" of football & the relative superiority of soccer) ain't exactly a thrilling prospect. Still, it beats the alternative.

UPDATE: Jesus Christ, I love you morons, but are you all on crack? Where did I say that we need to form a bipartisan consensus with Obama to keep government running smoothly? Where did I say that you shouldn't vote for McCain on November 4? Goddammit, some of you McCain fanatics are taking tips from Obama's "truth squads" and attacking everyone who mentions that the nominee has taken positions that are incompatible with conservatism.

Look, here's the Cliff Notes version of what I just wrote: I think McCain will pull it off, as long as he's within 6 points in the polls coming down to election day. Barring any dumbass moves from The Maverick, I see this election breaking for Republicans with maybe 10 electoral votes to spare. Of course, then we'll have to worry about "maverick" electors who are willing to embrace bipartisanship "for the good of the country" and disregard their state's vote totals and support The One anyway. What's going to be important is Conservatives & Republicans going to the polls despite what the media says.

I think that any actions you can take to prevent a possible President Obama from having his way will be defensible, but I hope the Right doesn't go completely bugshit crazy in opposition. I'm not talking about asking questions about Obama's policies, I'm talking about deliberate manipulation of the truth and incitement to violence in order to thwart the wishes of someone you disagree with politically. I'm not naive enough to believe that our side won't get some digs in whenever possible, but I'd like to think that we won't Destroy The Village In Order to Save It in our opposition.

Someone in the comments mentioned that Clinton's treatment by the Right should be compared with Bush's treatment by the Left. I'm sorry, but that's bullshit. When President Clinton sent troops into Haiti, I don't recall hearing "B1 Bob Dornan" calling them Nazis or NKVD goons on the floor of the House. When Clinton ordered our military to bomb the Serbs over Kosovo's independence bid, I don't recall seeing Rush Limbaugh leading protests at military bases calling our troops "babykillers" and "social retards who can't function in civilian society". When Clinton lobbed some cruise missiles at Al Quaeda training camps in Afghanistan and an aspirin factory in Sudan, you didn't see Fred Thompson going to Switzerland and telling an international conference that America was killing journalists to keep them from telling the truth about our repressive policies, did you?

All I'm saying is that IF, and it's a BIG if right now, Obama finds a way to pull this one out the Right should oppose him on issues. I don't hate the lunatic left because they have different positions on political issues than I do: I hate them because they're absolutely insane Marxists who are willing to kill my whole family to advance their agenda, who ALSO happen to disagree with me on political issues.

I have no desire to become what I hate. And you shouldn't either.
