McCain Sorta Kinda Says Obama Just Might Be A Socialist
I'm guessing he won't be throwing himself under the bus for this later.
He also said Obama had the “most extreme” record in the Senate.
Asked later if he thought Obama was an extremist, McCain said: “His voting record … is more to the left than the announced socialist in the United States Senate, Bernie Sanders of Vermont.”
Does McCain think Obama is a socialist? “I don’t know. All I know is his voting record, and that’s what people usually judge their elected representatives by.”
Has it dawned on McCain that he might just need some conservative votes after all and that drawing some pretty sharp contrasts between him and Obama on an issue other than Iraq might be helpful?
Of course my excitment at McCain's near use of the 's' word is tempered by my dislike for his cap and trade scheme. Yes, I know it's not a socialist policy per se but it's still a huge regulatory burden on the economy.
Still, firing up the economic wing of the coalition is a good thing. Will he keep at it or backtrack when the inevitable whining about name calling begins?
