New McCain Ad: That Obama Guy Is A Stinking Hippie!
That's pretty much the insinuation when he ties "hope and change" to "The Summer of Love". Even better, the script refers to McCain as “a maverick”.
Actually, I think the ad is fine, though I'm not sure tying Obama to the 60s is going to work considering the guy was born in 61. Is re-fighting that battle the way to go? How many people under the age of 50 really care? What’s the next McCain ad going to be… "Hey, get off my lawn!"?
That said, McCain's service and love of country is what he has, so he’s got to go with it. Will it be enough against Obama? I'm starting to think not. Young, energetic and hopeful (vacuous as that might be) tends to play well in politics.
After 7 years of war and a currently stalled economy, uncomfortable truths and sacrifice is a tough sell. People don't want a 'hard man for hard times' they want the guy who is going to bring back the easy times or at least one that will con them into thinking he can.
I'm not saying that's a good thing but my guess (at this point) is, that's the reality.
