American Labor Unions: Cesar Chavez is Old School
Kinda tipped from this post at HA about Vincent Curatola offering it up in an ad promoting the Employee Free Choice Act, a bill before Congress which would kill the secret ballot requirement for collective bargaining via a labor union.
Remarkably, this is a right UFW organizer Cesar Chavez fought to secure. Secret. Safe. Uncompromised voting. Give the working man the right to make his choice free of pressure, threat or intimidation.
In a nutshell, the "card check" proposal permits organizing votes in the open, it eliminates the NLRB rule providing for secret ballots. Instead, it opens it up to public intimidation and pressure, which could come from both sides of the issue.
Well, not now. Companies are cowed and union organizers are not. So let's be honest (heh). We know where the pressure will come from.
It's a blatant move by dues-starved labor unions to grow. And let's be honest again, unions are businesses. Their revenue stream is dues. And it's been starving for years.
Take out the Federal workforce from that 12% and be even more surprised.
They're willing to throw one of their heroes under the bus for that money.
Money does that.
Totally unrelated bonus: Low flying jets. Somewhat spotty vids in certain places, but fucking awesome still. Via the Man of Substance, who served in the United States Navy, and God bless him.
UPDATE: commenter xbradtc, a knuckledragging treadhead, is a fan of the low-flying A-10 Warthog.
Well who could blame him? Angels in the sky and all that.
I think I hijacked my own post.
