Battlestar Galactica: Mid-Season Finale Early Screening
I took a break from bar quiz prep this evening to go to the well-attended early screening of Revelations at the Arclight in Hollywood. This is the last Galactica episode that we'll be seeing for a while---probably for this year. They're still filming the final episodes, which Mary McDonnell described as giving her goosebumps.
Here's what it looked like as everyone was leaving. I had moved to the back so as to time my exit correctly...
McDonnell, Katee Sackhoff, Tricia Helfer, and Ron Moore were there during the show and to answer questions from the fans and academy members (Kevin Smith showed up). There was a mix of good questions ("What kind of leeway do you think you have from being on cable as compared with broadcast TV?"), bad questions ("In Season 3's Episode 11, there was a piece of paper on screen and I thought it said blah blah blah...") and absolutely retarded non-questions (to McDonnell: "I wish I could vote for you for president.")
There were two things that were news to me. The first episode of the spin-off series Caprica is being filmed right now. Moore described it as a "back-door pilot" with a "distinctly different feel" than Galactica. Sackhoff said she liked how paternal the Galactica cast feels toward the newer, younger Caprica actors. The new series will take place 50 years before the events depicted in the Galactica miniseries. It's supposed to be a "family drama" about the development of the cylons.
Second, Moore said that there is progress towards doing at least one more two-hour TV-movie in the fashion of Razor. Internet speculation is that as many as three such movies had been approved, but Moore seemed very doubtful of that. My impression is that we might get one and to not press our luck.
About Revelations...it's good; it's really good. An excellent 43 minutes of television that ends on just at the right note and there's no ridiculous mindfrak like at the end of Season 3. I'd tell you more, but Ron Moore swore us to secrecy---no really, "raise your right hand" and everything---and I wouldn't want to spoil it for anyone anyway.
My timing was near-perfect. I got to say hello to Katee, right after I caught her in this photo in the middle of a word. She's hilarious and very nice. By the way, the bottom of that pink dress is only barely farther down than it looks in the photo.
I didn't get to say hi to Tricia, some old coot elbowed his way past me and then one of the many security folks indicated that we should be moving along. That's okay, she's no Lucy Lawless.
It was a good break from studying, but tomorrow I go back to working and worrying all the time. Revelations will air on Friday at the usual time.
Spoiler Policy: Anything from the miniseries and the show up to last week's episode is fair game; no need to warn or in some way obscure text for anything that comes from that material. However, anything you may have heard about Revelations or future episodes should be kept to yourself. You can keep it to yourself for two days; let's not ruin it for anyone, m'kay?
