Yup.
I've been dealing with some dude who claims the "context" of Wright's full speech rescues it from being offensively anti-American, and that the snippets usually played are "propaganda." He also claims to be a "right wing nutjob."
I'll omit his name and blog but give you exchange.
[Let's call him "Moby:"] I am a totally Right Wing nut job, but like you, I try to be honest. I discovered the full context of the Wright speech BEFORE he said "God dam America...." I think we are being propagandized at the very least. Look here [link to the "God Damn America/Chickens have come home... to roost" sermon of hatred]
Me: Dude, I'll avoid accusing you of deception, and just ask you, um, what "context" do you see there that saves his remarks from meaning precisely what they seem to mean "out of context"?
Everyone's seen the whole speech. I've seen it a bunch of times. This is old news. What new stuff are you seeing here that changes "God Damn America" and "the chickens have come home... to roost" into something inoffensive and even informative?
"Moby:" I appreciate that you are avoiding accusing me of deception. That's real real white of you. You and a lot of the Right are becoming hacks. Wright's entire speech will finally be aired and you'll have to rant and rave about some other fiction, and Obama will win, in part because people like you become propagandists instead of truth tellers.
Me: So you actually can't tell me what "context" you believe changes the plain meaning of declaring that America deserved 9/11 and that God should damn it for its sins?
You're just asserting, broadly and vaguely, that something in in his rant rescues it from the obviously intended meaning?
Seems like something a "hack" might do -- make an assertion without providing any specific evidence to support that assertion.
The tone of your posts does indeed suggest deception. You sound like a false-flag recruiter, claiming to be a "right wing nutjob" while attacking "the Right." Did you expect this to work?
...
Just curious -- I'm wondering if you believe there's some "context" justifying Wright's claim that the government pumps drugs and AIDS into black veins, or some "context" that rescues his full-throated support of the anti-semitic, anti-white lunatic Louis Farrakhan.
I'm guessing you think there is... and yet once again you'll be unable to explain precisely where this context might be found.
...
Oh, and since you're so big on "context" -- can you tell me the "context" of your belief that this is propaganda?
Like, for example, if you've decided to support Barack Obama for president?
Gee, to make a claim while denying a partisan rooting interest in that claim's validity seems kinda hack, huh?
The blogger in question is one I've heard of, though I can't remember what his politics are. I don't know if I've ever linked him. He could actually be on the right.
But he also seems to be something of a fan of Barack Obama.
Eh, maybe I'm wrong. Maybe he really honestly does see some "context" here that changes the meaning of the words. But if so, he's not really very specific about what this context is.
