Bush Takes On Goofy Foreign Policy Ideas And Obama Is Insulted
Niiiiiice.
President Bush speaking to the Israeli Knesset today celebrating that country's 60th anniversary:
"Some seem to believe we should negotiate with terrorists and radicals, as if some ingenious argument will persuade them they have been wrong all along," the President said to the country's legislative body, "We have heard this foolish delusion before. As Nazi tanks crossed into Poland in 1939, an American senator declared: 'Lord, if only I could have talked to Hitler, all of this might have been avoided.' We have an obligation to call this what it is –- the false comfort of appeasement, which has been repeatedly discredited by history."
No names were used but Obama knows when he's being slapped. (Maybe not, see update at end)
In a statement, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., shot across the bow: "It is sad that President Bush would use a speech to the Knesset on the 6Oth anniversary of Israel's independence to launch a false political attack. It is time to turn the page on eight years of policies that have strengthened Iran and failed to secure America or our ally Israel. Instead of tough talk and no action, we need to do what Kennedy, Nixon and Reagan did and use all elements of American power -- including tough, principled, and direct diplomacy - to pressure countries like Iran and Syria. George Bush knows that I have never supported engagement with terrorists, and the President's extraordinary politicization of foreign policy and the politics of fear do nothing to secure the American people or our stalwart ally Israel."
Who's your daddy?

Tom Daschle was just on Fox complaining that it was inappropriate for the President to do this and insert himself into the campaign like this.
After 8 years of Democrats inserting themselves into foreign policy with trips to dictators I'd say they don't have much to complain about.
MMM...I smell a World's Worst Person award or possibly even a dreaded Special Commentary tonight!
And no matter what Obama says, Hamas is pulling for him
Hamas has endorsed Barack Obama for President. Yousef said, "We like Mr. Obama and we hope he will win the election." Why? "He has a vision to change America."
Below the fold commenter hit and run points to the White House response...not so fast Barack.
Heh.
"It is not," press secretary Dana Perino told reporters in Israel. "I would think that all of you who cover these issues and have for a long time have known that there are many who have suggested these types of negotiations with people that the president, President Bush, thinks that we should not talk to. I understand when you're running for office you sometimes think the world revolves around you. That is not always true. And it is not true in this case."
Actually, it probably wasn't a shot at Obama. I know he's advocated unconditional talks with a rogues gallery of governments but I don't remember him ever saying we should talk to terrorists groups. No, that infamous distinction belongs to the worst President and ex-President evah....Mr. Jimmy Carter.
Like I said at the top of the post...Niiiiice.
