NYT Claims Economy Is "Ailing" On Page 1
Curious. The article is all about the long-anticipated recession which the NYT claims is just around the corner.
But if a recession is coming, that means we're not, in fact, currently in a recession, right? Indeed the economy just grew at its fastest pace in three years (and it's been growing consistently since 2002). And the ISM report on manufacturing activity showed another month of growth (albeit very small growth).
Is the NYT now embracing a novel use of the future perfect tense, using the present tense to indicate a hypothetical future state?
And-- are they ever going to admit the economy is actually doing well currently?
