50 Years Ago Today: Atlas Shrugged
Remembering the original capito-thriller at the WSJ, quoted at Michelle Malkin.
I'm not sure if Atlas Shrugged made me a conservative or merely solidified a change in my thinking that had gone on through college, but I was never bashful about the c-word ("conservatism") after reading it. Before reading it I claimed to be a "libertarian" or "moderate Democrat" or something. After that book I wasn't afraid to call myself conservative anymore.
Yeah, I know, she wasn't really a conservative, or at least not fully so. But the book is a pretty damn powerful championing of free market capitalism, obviously central to modern conservatism.
