Worst Covers, Of All Time (Besides Valerie Plame's, Of Course)
Bonus: 14 Covers Better Than The Origina, from the Onion's AV Club.
Thanks to Slublog for that.
According to Cracked.
Duran Duran's haplessly white cover of Pubic Enemy's 911 Is A Joke deserves to be on the list, as well as the various attempts by pop divas to cover rock songs.
But a lot of these songs seem, well, kind of good to me. No Doubt's cover that Talk Talk song is indeed just "note for note," but so what? You've got a hot chick singing it now instead of some dude. And it rescued a good but forgotten song that was barely a hit when it first came out. Win-win, it seems to me.
Other songs seem okay to me, and just this guy hatin' on anyone messin' with his classic faves, like Another Brick in the Wall.
I like this put-down of Smash-mouth's cover of the Monkees' I'm a Believer:
But here's the thing—how bad a cover version do you have to create to look bad compared to The goddamn Monkees? That's like losing a paralyzation contest to Stephen Hawking.
Via the Corner.
Thanks to Drew for the joke.
I guess that's probably how K-Lo came across this -- googling "worst cover."
