The Surge: 20,000
Jack Straw asks if it's really enough to make a difference.
I think so. It's not the sort of eyepopping number I'd have preferred, like 40,000 or 50,000, but it still is around one-seventh of all troops there.
Basically we can keep all troop levels the same and add in another 20,000 warfighters into Baghdad and Anbar only. That makes it sound better, doesn't it?
Can't hurt. I just no longer believe that "more American troops just gives the terrorists more targets." The American "targets" get to shoot back, and shooting back is sort of an important part of winning a war.
