Lebanon Balks At Disarming Hezbollah, Or Even Sending Troops To The South

Well, I figured there was a low probability of success here, but I didn't imagine Lebanon would refuse to comply before the ceasefire was even in effect.

Powerline has more, calling the news "grim."

The ceasefire did not address the subject of the kidnapped soldiers. So there's this:

The Haaretz newspaper reported the government was willing to discuss a possible release of Lebanese prisoners in exchange for the freeing of the two captured Israeli soldiers.

What? Then... what was this all for?

Another quote:

The officials said the working assumption at the Prime Minister's Office was that Hizbullah would not honor the agreement and that the world would then comprehend Israel's predicament more than ever. At press time, the Lebanese cabinet had not given final approval to the cease-fire.

"When Hizbullah violates the cease-fire, the world will see who the aggressor is and will understand us," a source close to Olmert said.

I thought there was some minor benefit to be had there, but it's not like Europe or the UN is suddenly going to side with Israel, simply because it's abiding by truces and not murdering innocent people. That strategy hasn't worked for 60 years; it's not going to work now.

I thought that at least Lebanon would attempt some kind of action against Hezbollah, if only to prevent further Israeil strikes.

It won't. The terrorists are too strong and too popular.

And so it goes in the Muslim world.

It's about time we simply admitted: We are talking about a "few bad apples" the same way Nazi Germany was a "few bad apples." Muslim xenopathic hatred is endemic. It consumes a majority of Muslims, 50 or 60 or 70 percent or more.

And they will not stop until they are decimated militarily or we are dead.

I was wrong. I believed, for once, Muslims might actually choose peace.

I don't know if I'll be making that mistake again anytime soon.

Related: Another futile call to Muslims to abandon terrorism:

WHEN will the Muslims of Britain stand up to be counted?

When will they declare, loud and clear, with no qualifications or quibbles about Britain's foreign policy, that Islamic terrorism is WRONG?

Most of all, when will the Muslim community in this country accept an absolute, undeniable, total truth: that Islamic terrorism is THEIR problem? THEY own it. And it is THEIR duty to face it and eradicate it.

To stop the denial, endless fudging and constant wailing that somehow it is everyone else's problem and, if Islamic terrorism exists at all, they are somehow the main victims.

When?

How's a few months after the apocalypse grab you? Is that convenient?
