Long (48 hours!) have I lectured on the need for civility. Words sting. They wound. They inflict psychic damage that may not be obvious to the speaker.
And now? I have proof of the severity of the psychological damage that I have consistently and conscientiously rallied against. I want you to watch this short videotape to see a young, tortured soul who is obviously scarred by another woman's (Marna) uncivil attendance at the senior prom. I have been told that this particular young woman may, in fact, be BrewFan's daughter.
In which case, the apple clearly does not fall far from the tree!
To the video!
What lessons should you take from this short clip?
1) That words die if their proper meanings are their power are not understood and acknowledged;
2) That "even though she is introspective and walks among the shadows she can still hear you."; and
3) That, yeah, I'd still hit it. But in a civil fashion after having obtained consent. And perhaps, treated her to dinner and a movie. Something lighthearted and fun that I know she would enjoy. "Love Story", perhaps.
