Bill Clinton: Convict Publishers Of Mohammad Cartoons?!?!
At least according to a Pakistani newspaper's account of his remarks.
Mark in Mexico calls shenanigans, and cautions waiting for an actual transcript of his remarks before going too bananas over this.
I'm with Mark. Not only does Clinton try to say not much of anything, but this is really blatantly anti-American (jn spirit; I realize he's urging a European conviction here, if that's what he did).
Still... Bill does have a tendency to say precisely what his current audience most wants to hear, doesn't he?
Status: Total F'n' Bullshit: Mark can't find anyone reporting these remarks except for the Pakistan Daily News. Here's his guess as to the passage that was garbled in translation:
[The] religious convictions of the people should be respected at all costs and no media should be allowed to play with the religious sentiments of people of any faith.
They hear what they want to, I guess.
On Second Thought... That's some serious dhimmi pandering, isn't it? "Respected at all costs"? Really? ALL costs? Like, at the cost of freedom of expression?
What a douche.
