BET: Global Warming Could Spell Disaster for Blacks.
Well now, that's not very entertaining.
Anyone else reminded of the old joke about the New York Times headline on Judgment Day? "World Ends; Women, Minorities Hit Hardest"?
This thing is a real crock-pot of crockery:
Relatively, Blacks are environmental Good Samaritans. Per capita, we emit approximately 20 percent less carbon dioxide than Whites – well below 2020 targets set by the U.S. Climate Stewardship Act. Not only do we use more energy-conserving public transportation, we spend considerably less per capita on energy-intensive material goods.
But do blacks use
the whole animal, you know, like American Indians?
“Katrina showed us that we don’t know how to deal with (environmental disasters),” Miller says. “We really need to make sure that we have mechanisms, escape routes and policies in place that are going to protect those who are most vulnerable.”
Mechanisms. . .
like buses?
Anyway. . . I just love the subtext that even Mother Nature is a racist. First it was The Man, now it's The Mom.
Sigh. I just wish I could remind everyone that ALL humans have trouble breathing water with their primate lungs. That whole "drowning" thing tends to inconveniently cut across racial lines. When it comes to the environment, we're all in the same boat, or thrown out of it, together.
