Like Walmart Needed This Sort of PR
If you're shopping for the Planet of the Apes TV shows on DVD, Walmart's software will suggest you also consider some "similar items," including a DVD about Martin Luther King, Jr.
And three other black-themed DVD's.
I was going to guess that maybe this was because black actor Michael Clarke Duncan is in the remake movie, so it's picking up on that to offer other movies starring blacks or about black themes, but no, this is the old TV series. Yeah, there was a black guy in it, but that's hardly common knowlege. Not the sort of thing you'd expect some software to pick up on.
What was his name? The actor himself doesn't even remember anymore. So that can't be it.
And I can't imagine that their software is so subtle as to be playing on the race-conflict theme of Planet of the Apes, either.
I'm having trouble imagining this as anything but deliberate, perhaps the result of racist "pranksters" doing a Google-bomb type thing to the Walmart software by looking for Planet of the Apes and then looking for Martin Luther King, Jr., making the software think the two have something in common.
