Shock: Maureen Dowd Whines It's A Man's (Opinionated) World
Lorie Byrd from PoliPundit tips to a Michelle Malkin rip on Dowd.
Check out Maureen's eternal whine:
In 1996, after six months on the job, I went to Howell Raines, the editorial page editor, to try to get out of the column. I was a bundle of frayed nerves. I felt as though I were in a "Godfather" movie, shooting and getting shot at. Men enjoy verbal dueling. As a woman, I told Howell, I wanted to be liked - not attacked. He said I could go back to The Metro Section; I decided to give it another try.
You know, I try to mix my references up a bit. I even reference stuff I don't know much about. I can't make everything a Paul Anka, D&D, or Whitensnake reference, after all.
This is Maureen Dowd's 4,897th likening of something she doesn't like to The Godfather and/or The Sopranos (or both). And yes, I've been counting (scan down for the parody "Artificial Insouciance."
Why aren't there more female opinion columnists?
Because the current "Alpha Chick" of the set is trite, vapid, and repetitive to the point of tediousness. She hasn't had anything to say for about, oh, going on seven years now.
This moron is keeping you down, ladies.
It would be much the same were Oliver Willis taken to be an exemplar of male bloggers.
Distaff Update: As Cathy Seipp notes, Susan Estrich ain't doin' female writers no favors, neither.
